My new strategy is to invest in goods

Post by Dallas from Austin »

In order to beat inflation, I'm going to stock up on tons of goods. I'll try to buy a few years worth of paper towels and toilet paper, a few years of cleaning supplies, then a few years of other non-perishables like shampoo and toothpaste and aluminum foil and spare pairs of shoes.

This way, as prices of those things rise over the months/years, I'll have bought them at a much lower price.

Inflation is through the roof and I'm sitting here with my stash of goods! Not sure if I should sell off some goods at a profit or just hold on to them all.

Why sell now when it will be worth more tomorrow?

Great idea! Inflation seems like a one-way thing, so I'll probably just keep sitting on these goods.

I mean, I’ve got a bottle downstairs that I paid $175 for last October. Secondary market pricing now is $250-275.

I have a feeling we're going to see more inflation.

That's why, over the next couple of weeks, I'm going to by 2+ years worth of toilet paper, paper towels, ziploc bags, cling wrap, aluminum foil, socks, shoes, and I'll be thinking of more items.

I have several multi-packs of paper towels and toilet paper now. I've also got several tubes of toothpaste and several containers of cat littler.

A large section of my bedroom is dedicated to my goods investments. I'll try to keep track of the value of my stash of goods as inflation progresses.

I suppose beating 6% inflation is better than nothing.

I'm back at it today. I just stocked up on cat food, cat litter, peanut butter, toothpaste, toilet paper, dish soap, and laundry detergent. Should have about a 1.5-2 year supply of each now. I expect prices to keep increasing over that period.

I've got 5 replacement filters for my air filter, spare set of wiper blades (just put a new set on), couple unopened packs of socks, 50 9V batteries (non-rechargeable), 5 rechargeable 9V batteries, 100 AA batteries, 30 gallon jugs of water, 5 cases of bottled drinking water, and a year supply of toiletries.

This is what I've been doing. Especially shoes, clothes, etc.

I think China will annihilate America in this trade war and then they'll charge is sucker prices for everything.

This strategy could make some serious money if you bought a bunch of cars and then wait to sell them in a couple of months

Good idea. I've sold off everything and am going around to all the stores tomorrow to buy tens of thousands worth of goods
