Tri City area of Washington near the Oregon border. Supposed to stay in the 30s/low 40s with decent chance of rain/slow around 6 AM tomorrow. Hope I got the right gear.

Re: Any Outdoor Runners?
Almost 48 hours after the completion of the event and I'm still taking Tylenol, Weimy, but we're on the mend at least. Ended up "running" 64ish miles (92 out and backs along a .35 mile hilly stretch of a mountain) while gaining 25k feet of vert in just under 32 hours. Rain and wind picked up with about 4 hours to go, but that's why you prepare accordingly. Stomach didn't feel quite right for most of the time, so I was alternating between Shasta brand Mt. Dew for the caffeine and Ginger Ale for the stomach. Probably brushed my teeth 6 or 7 times to minimize the damage to the teeth. Feet felt like sandpaper around the, say, 24 hour mark, but not as painful as some of the blisters I've gotten in the past. Back to Seattle tomorrow to see a Kraken game before flying back Wednesday.weimy froob wrote: ↑Fri Dec 06, 2024 8:44 amfollowing. where actually are you in the pacific northwest? what's the weather going to be like?Miley Cyrus wrote: ↑Fri Dec 06, 2024 8:37 am Less than an hour and a half to go before the grind kicks off here in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Just needed to complete 8 more out and backs to achieve matching the vert of Mount Everest, but Annapurna is a nice consolation. 4 more hours and it could've been done.weimy froob wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2024 5:28 pmglad you're feeling better. does sound grueling though.Miley Cyrus wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2024 1:50 pmAlmost 48 hours after the completion of the event and I'm still taking Tylenol, Weimy, but we're on the mend at least. Well fellas, I did not run, nor did I go outdoors, but there is a thing called the elliptical and since I don't think this warrants its own thread, I'm posting it here, mmk? Anyways, between the cold, snow/ice and my right knee still not feeling 100% from the race, low impact cardio only made sense. Saturday morning we house a loaf of cinnamon bread before walking to LA Fitness wherein we begin our voyage around 10:30. Things are going aight until I get a text from my buddy around 1 saying he's not feeling well, so I have to leave the gym for a while to get shit sorted out. A few hours later, we head back to the gym to resume the workout, blasting the legs as long as we can until the gym closes at 8. Gym opens at 8 AM on Sundays, so we get back on the machine at 8:30 and grind until it closes again at 8 PM. Housed plenty of Dew, Cherry Coke and granola bars to keep me fueled and then had 4 bagels as a recovery meal once I got home. Not much scenery (unless you count the heavenly blessed beauties on the treadmills), but you gotta find any way you can to burn those calories when the conditions are not ideal.

Front of the knee just a little sensitive right now likely from all those rocky downhills from a couple weekends ago. We'll see how it feels in 2 weeks. Not sure what my resting heart rate is either. Just focused on the calorie count.weimy froob wrote: ↑Sun Dec 22, 2024 8:53 pmI don't know what your resting heartbeat is, but i'd guess that's being in the aerobic zone for all those hours. what's with the knee?Miley Cyrus wrote: ↑Sun Dec 22, 2024 8:48 pm Well fellas, I did not run, nor did I go outdoors, but there is a thing called the elliptical and since I don't think this warrants its own thread, I'm posting it here, mmk? No formal treatment for now - just taking a break from running. From experience, these things tend to go away with time, but should that not be the case, a call to Tria Orthopedics may be be in play. Next race isn't until May, so plenty of time to heal up.weimy froob wrote: ↑Sun Dec 22, 2024 9:10 pmare you doing treatments on your knee? you don't want that to become a bigger problem.Miley Cyrus wrote: ↑Sun Dec 22, 2024 9:07 pm Front of the knee just a little sensitive right now likely from all those rocky downhills from a couple weekends ago. That's a hell of an elliptical session!
I'm burned out on running for another month or two and have been doing 1-2 hours treadmill walks while reading a book.
Maybe those new "smart" glasses being developed will allow for reading while running. A physical book just shakes too much to focus the eyes.

Well, fellas, when the weather outside is frightful and the knee is so delightful enough, the calculus calls for a date with the treadmill and that's just how we do at Cyrus Fitness. Started at 9 AM Saturday and housed 2 bottles of Sunkist Orange and 1 less thereof each of Cherry Coke and Dew Major Melon. Crushed 43 miles before closing time at 8 PM whereafter the journey would restart at 11 today and extend through 3:30. Only needed 1 bottle of Major Melon to get through the day before walking back home. Got the 100k done on the mill plus an extra 4 miles of walking to/from the gym, because good just isn't good enough sometimes. Skol!

Hell of a treadmill session! Do you stay on the same one the whole time or hop around to different treadmills for a very slight change of scenery?

Knee is as good as new now, although treadmills offer a more forgiving surface than pavement. Wouldn't be afraid to go around the lake though if El Nino made an appearance.weimy froob wrote: ↑Thu Jan 09, 2025 10:21 ammy guess is that many hours in that heart rate zone equals optimal calorie burn. how is the knee?Miley Cyrus wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 10:07 pmI try to get one of the 2 treadmills that reside at the ends of the row - more room to safely set aside my liquids and granola bars. Re: Any Outdoor Runners?
Another EPIC 2 day treadmill session was had with 32 miles done on Saturday and 30 more on Sunday. The pop tally on the weekend: 3 16.7 oz bottles of Mt. Dew Major Melon and 1 Cherry Coke thereof. Right foot was aching a bit early on Saturday but went away as the minutes dragged on while watching HGTV and Food Network on mute. Farted a lot like usual, but luckily for those around me, the odor, to me at least, was minimal. Probably gotta do 2-3 more treadmill ultras before it's reasonable to go back outdoors again. Fingers crossed.

Yes, Weimy! January? February? Does it really matter? Because in this household, we believe no human is illegal and that every mile matters. Anyways, left around 8:30 PM and made it back before noon wherein we completed 4 15-16 mile out and backs going up and down the serene Lake Minnetonka trail. The attire? Long sleeve T and tactical jacket on top with thermal leggings and windproof pants on bottom along with a stocking hat. 1st round goes smoothly - saw a total of 3 people and crushed a bottle of Mt. Dew Baja Blast. Round 2 goes well, if a bit chilly so we stop at home upon the completion thereof and throw on the MN Wild hoodie and a ski mask. 1 bottle of Mt. Dew was crushed during this and 1 soul was seen this round. Round 3 might have been the toughest. Some mild nausea came and went and at times it felt like the calves were tightening up. 1 bottle of Cherry Coke crushed and not a SINGLE soul was seen. Before heading out for round 4, we slurp down some 2 month old flat Mello Yello, take a dump, and eat a couple granola bars to see if that helps with the stomach a bit. Also threw on the waterproof windbreaker in case this wintery mix that was forecasted came to fruition. Alas it did not, although the final mile did see some light flakes. Many souls were seen, but not many bikes. 1 bottle of Sunkist Orange was had.weimy froob wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2025 10:36 pmfollowing.Miley Cyrus wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2025 10:11 pm Yes, fellas. Hell of a set of out-and-backs! Too bad it wasn't warmer or you could've dipped your head in Lower Lake each time out for the refreshing sensation.

Nausea might stem from not taking in enough solid food if I had to guess and the cold can cause muscles to stiffen up a bit. Always rinse my mouth with plain H20 after a sugar bomb. Early forecast calls for a treadmill run next time around.weimy froob wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2025 6:15 pmit's good to put an outdoor training session in January under your belt. what are the factors that bring on the nausea? hope the calves aren't damaged and brush the sugar off your teeth.Miley Cyrus wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2025 5:24 pmYes, Weimy! Never tried the lake thing. Even in the summer, not sure if submerging the entire body would be the best idea when running overnight, but just the face may feel nice.
