Is that 2nd paragraph a direct (or even paraphrased) quote?BuDG123 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 30, 2024 6:40 am Thought we might go for Cam Robinson in the 2nd round of the 2017 draft when we had Riley Roadhouse Ried as our starting left tackle, but we ended drafting Dalvin Cook 7 picks later. Hopefully this works out.
Kwesi said he doesn’t like the draft process as much as free agency because the draft is too much like a casino where as free agency is more like a stalker watching his target from afar, secretly slithering in until they pounce and wrap up their player. He seems to do better with FA swings than draft picks. It would be great to turn things around again this week.

Don’t hate it, but isn’t he injured often also?

I gwt this move was made because of injury.
But I hope this isn't it as far as improvements.
The problems this team had 3 years ago are still problems. Corner back, and interior offensive line and the defensive line in general.

Why wouldn't Jacksonville keep their starting LT and resign him? He's not Top-10 but quality LT'd are tough to come by. Does he hate the organization or something?

Purely from an asset standpoint, locking up our 4/5 in 2026 doesn't prevent us from doing anything else that has been discussed on here.

He's 29 and may not be around for their window rebuild, as well as cost a whole lot. They'd rather draft and pay a rookie contract guy in the higher paid bracket of positions. They may have already drafted that guy too.Tommy_Hawk wrote: ↑Wed Oct 30, 2024 12:15 pm Why wouldn't Jacksonville keep their starting LT and resign him? Glad they didn't have to give up anything significant. I would have just moved Brandel to LT and put Risner at LG.

That’s because he’s been terrible at drafting.BuDG123 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 30, 2024 6:40 am Kwesi said he doesn’t like the draft process as much as free agency because the draft is too much like a casino where as free agency is more like a stalker watching his target from afar, secretly slithering in until they pounce and wrap up their player. He might have to hire better college scouts.

They do have another young tackle in waiting (Walker Little). Based on talking with some Jags fans, it doesn’t sound like they believe the team would’ve resigned him after this season.Tommy_Hawk wrote: ↑Wed Oct 30, 2024 12:15 pm Why wouldn't Jacksonville keep their starting LT and resign him? However, Robinson was benched in favor of backup offensive lineman Walker Little for Jacksonville’s Week 8 matchup with the Green Bay Packers. Little, the Jaguars’ No. 45 overall pick in 2021, from Stanford, had previously filled in for Robinson in Week 7 after the starter suffered a concussion.minnemike wrote: ↑Wed Oct 30, 2024 12:57 pmHe's 29 and may not be around for their window rebuild, as well as cost a whole lot. Before Robinson was dealt to Minnesota, Jacksonville head coach Doug Pederson said he was unsure who would start at left tackle for the Jaguars moving forward.

Meh - could all be prep for trading him for all we know. And like I said - looks like they already drafted their guy for better or worse... this is the time to get him snaps, when they are out of it. Also the time to trade away assets that wont fit the future plan. It all makes sense to me. You don't think MN watched every spec of tape on him before the trade as well as a physical? The conspiracy flags you are flying would have already been there for everyone if true.Beetlejuice wrote: ↑Wed Oct 30, 2024 3:55 pmHowever, Robinson was benched in favor of backup offensive lineman Walker Little for Jacksonville’s Week 8 matchup with the Green Bay Packers. So, let's say he fails like you are insinuating... then he becomes at best a 5th rounder 2 drafts from now which calculates to a 6th rounder in this draft. Again, meh. It's worth a roll of the dice.

He’s expensive and they have a cheaper young guy they like. Highly unlikely they resign him. He doesn’t make sense at his age and likely contract for them.Tommy_Hawk wrote: ↑Wed Oct 30, 2024 12:15 pm Why wouldn't Jacksonville keep their starting LT and resign him? He’s been a pretty good player most of his career. I think he’s regressed to “capable starter” now. But he’s about as good a get at a premium position like LT as you’re going to find without selling the farm.

I don’t know if he’s regressed or not, but heard he’s just as good now as he was as a rookie. He’s never really improved.Beef Supreme wrote: ↑Wed Oct 30, 2024 4:07 pmHe’s expensive and they have a cheaper young guy they like. Highly unlikely they resign him. Good left tackles are almost never available at the trade deadline. I think if Robinson was in Jacksonville’s long term plans, he would have been extended already. He was active last game, but didn’t play a down. It looks like the Jaguars are getting a potential 4th round pick for a half-season rental.

It’s most likely the better/more Robinson plays, it’ll be a 4th round pick. If he doesn’t play as much or good, it’ll be a 5th round pick.Beef Supreme wrote: ↑Thu Oct 31, 2024 7:03 amIt’s conditional. I wonder if the escalation is contingent on him resigning here. The rest of the trade details are released, I wonder why the conditions of the pick conveyance aren’t being reported.Oriole81 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 31, 2024 8:05 amConsidering what we need, I think we should bank on it being that 4th.witljon wrote: ↑Thu Oct 31, 2024 7:38 amIt’s most likely the better/more Robinson plays, it’ll be a 4th round pick. I did see that Jacksonville is absorbing $7M of his remaining contract. Vikes on the voice for about $3M.

Considering Jax is also picking up the bulk of the salary though, my hunch would be that the escalator would be something that is reasonably attainable.

We don’t know the conditions, but I think we can safely say if Robinson steps right in and starts the rest of the season, it will cost the 4th round pick. If he gets hurt a couple of games in, it’ll be a 5th round pick.Oriole81 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 31, 2024 8:05 amConsidering what we need, I think we should bank on it being that 4th.witljon wrote: ↑Thu Oct 31, 2024 7:38 amIt’s most likely the better/more Robinson plays, it’ll be a 4th round pick. Correct, but in that scenario we would also likely get to keep the 7th round pick from them.
Let's just hope that we give them the 4th though and just have him start the rest of the year.

The word is the reason the Jaguars decided to trade Cam Robinson is because he refused to play against the Packers after being told he would not be starting.
