New Patriots WR KJ Osborn's getting a one-year, $4 million deal, source said. Like I said earlier, really good player out of the slot. Was clutch in Minnesota.

According to Bleacher Report:

Minnesota still has 17.8 million to spend in FA.

This is essentially false.

First, this total does not include several players the VIkings have signed such as Greenard, Jones, and Van GInkel. It also does not include the cap sapce allocation for the 2024 draft picks.

With their 2023 rollover and adjustment the total Adjusted Cap Space is $262,737,242

Without the following players: Bullard, Feeney, Greenard, Jones, Sherfield, Van Ginkel they have $192,303,213 in allocated cap space

THey have $57,364,207 in dead cap.

This totals $249,667,420

Available cap space (without the above players) is $13,069,822 (This is the ALL cap space, the Top 51 cap space is $17,839,822)

The 2024 cap hit for our picks is $12,457,711

Add back in the Harrison Smith contract restructure (the details of that are not avaible but should be a cap savings of at least $10 million) and potential 2024 cap savings from a Jefferson extension, there is some unknown cap space available. But because of the dead cap hits from Hunter, Cousins, and Davenport we are near the bottom of the barrel.

It has nothing to do with confidence. I gave you the exact numbers. You can see where Bleacher is just repeating the Spotac numbers (which is where I got the numbers I reported).

But, this information does not include the players in which the details have not been updated, which includes Greenard's large contract and Harrison Smith's large pay reduction.

But hey, just believe whatever you want. I don't care. If you can't understand what I am saying then that is ok. But you are just being obtuse.

This is my estimate of the cap hits of these players not included in the numbers:

Greenard Known: 4 years $76 million $42 million guaranteed Estimated 2024 cap hit: $5.5 million ($1.5 million base, $20 million signing)
Van GInkel Known: 2 years, $20 million $14 million guaranteed Estimated 2024 cap hit: $6.5 million ($1.5 million base, $10 million signing)
Aaron Jones Known: 1 year $7 million Estimated 2024 cap hit: $4.5 million ($2 million base, $5 million signing with a void year)

Bullard, Feeney, and Sherfield are most likely minimum value contracts with total cap hit of $4.5 million.

Total estimated 2024 cap hit: $21 million. It could be higher by $4 million depending on how they allocated signing bonuses and they might even wanted to take more of a 2024 cap hit rather than push these lower level contracts into 2025.

The Smith restructure will save at least $10 million of cap space but we need to work to create more space. But this is what the "tank" years are for. You kick the can down the road while you are nominally competitive. Then there comes a day when you reconcile that can and take the hit, but then you are moving from a veteran team to a young team that is cheaper. If you choose that timing right, and I think we might have come close to the right time, you can move on. If you miscalculate, it can be a disaster.

It all depends on what your measure is. I really don't care what the "millions per year" is in a NFL contract.

I have mentioned the contract offer I would make to Jefferson. Although it would be a 5 year deal with XXX million, the real contract offer is 3 years, $115 million with $81.5 million guaranteed at signing and more than $115 million guaranteed in the contract. There would be a $6 million 2026 base and $27.5 million 2026 option that would guarantee sometime during the contract.

Fully guaranteed would be $6 million base salaries in 2024 and 2025, $42 million signing bonus, and $27.5 million 2025 option bonus. There would be a $6 million 2026 base and $27.5 million 2026 option that would guarantee sometime during the contract. That is ALMOST $40 million per year so my answer is yet, and plug in whatever base salary you want for the 2027 and 2028 years although I can see structuring these major contract compensation as option bonus.

He would be the highest paid non-qb in the NFL.

My guess is that Brock Purdy agent is also Mike McCarthy and this move was orchestrated by McCarthy to make Purdy by default, in comparison to Dobbs. I mean, it worked for Kirk Cousins.

Yes. Bleacher Report is not adjusted for several contracts that the Vikings have signed or restructured. It is "incomplete".

I gave you the exact numbers. Are you going to argue them just to argue?
I love your confidence in yourself!
So the details of Andrew Van Ginkel's contract have just been entered in the Spotrac database. His cap 2024 hit is $3.4 million. He signed a 2 year deal, $10 million guaranteed at signing. $7 million signing bonus, $1.78 million 2024 base salary and $10.78 million 2025 base with $1 million of that salary guaranteed. There were 3 void years on the contract.

What happened to our cap space? Its now $15.2 million.

Cap Tutorial: the $15.2 million is the "Top 51" cap space". If Van Ginkel has a cap hit of $3.4 million, why did we only lose about $2.4 million in space? Because when Van Ginkel was added to the top 51, a player with a minimum salary came OFF the top 51.

What is the number we have to spend?
Because several of the contract details of players we have signed are unknown at this time to "the public" that number can only be estimated.

IT is minimal. The $15.2 million does not include several contract that have been signed, including Greenard. It also does not include the pay cut Harrison Smith took that probably reduced his cap hit by up to $10 million.

It also does not include the NET rookie cap allocation for our draft picks and UDFA signings nor the finalization of dead cap for players that might not make the roster this season. For example, if they cut Kene Nwangwu they would have $188,200 in additional dead cap on the 2024 salary cap because of the allocation of the last year of his original signing bonus.

Isn't it fun to actually learn about the NFL salary cap instead of just bloviating numbers you hear from sources that are just bloviating about things they do not totally understand?
