The fact that there’s no steam of Risner to anyone tells me something. For whatever reason, teams don’t like him. And I don’t know why. But it’s not just the Vikings. There’s some reason nobody in the league is talking to him. And I don’t knowingly that reason is. But it’s

This would be good especially if Detroit has to pay a nice price to get him.
Going to be 31 this season and has faded down the stretch of the season two years in a row now and on top of that, he’s a constant headache.
Better think about what ya doing Stephanie, you ain’t going to be the #1 target in Detroit.

Risner is a bad run blocker. That in addition to his price is what is keeping him from being signed.

Some of the details of these contracts are not fully known but it would be surprising for them to do a one year deal with signing bonus of this level and not tack on void years. If I was a player I would want void years because that will give the team you are playing for some incentive to resign you the year your contract runs out to save on the cap allocation.

According to Bleacher Report the Vikings still have: $23,944,927 available under the cap

Re: ***Official 2024 NFL Free Agency***
This is with the details of 5 free agents contracts and their 2024 cap hits unknown. This includes the reported $6 million one year deal to Griffin, although the 4 other players net hit to the 2024 cap might only be 5-6 million total.
It also does not include the net cap hit of rookie cap allocations and net increases in dead cap as veteran players do not make the roster this season.
Until these variables are known, no one knows what cap space the VIkings have.
One note on the Griffin signing. I cannot believe that the VIkings gave this kind of money to Shaquille Griffin. The guy used to be a good CB including a Pro Bowl year in 2019. After the completion of his rookie contract he got a 3 year, $40 million contract from Jacksonville with $24 million guaranteed. But he did not make it through that deal and was cut before his 3rd season. He signed with Houston for 1 year, $3.5 million but was released by the Texans before the end of the season.
I cannot imagine that we would sign a guy that was released midseason to a bigger contract than the season before. The wording that is used to describe Griffin's deal is "up to" six millions which implies that there are incentives included in the deal. Almost all incentives in NFL contracts are considered to be Unlikely To Be Earned (UTBE) and do not count against the salary cap until they are earned.

I kind of really like what they're doing this offseason. Kwesi is really killing it. Obviously the QB spot needs to be figured out but it's been a pretty good offseason
It's been 32 years since one of MN's four major sports teams has been to the Championship/Superbowl.
Every single year is failure until we win one. 4 teams, 32 years. That's roughly 128 consecutive failed seasons.

I give it a lower grade because we did not return Hunter. I would have loved to have Greenard and Hunter, with Pace, Van GInkel, and Cashman at LB.salamander wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2024 12:47 pm I kind of really like what they're doing this offseason. Interesting. I hope this Romo kid is good. It feels like Joseph was settling down after the weird year where he kissed all those PATs and could have been rounding into a decent kicker.
Good luck. Except not good luck. I hope he misses every kick.

Weird, thought he was a stable enough vet kicker to stick around here, especially at that price. I guess we'll see how this season goes with our new guy, and our old guy on our hated rivals team.

Haason Reddick traded to the Jets for a conditional pick in 2026.
Reddick had 11 sacks in 2023, so another nice piece for them.
