To me REM was a great band that put out a string of proper albums from Murmer through New Adventures in Hi-Fi, although I realize some fans put their peak at Automatic which I won't argue hard with.

They arguably helped put alternative music on the map, were once called the best band on the planet by Rolling Stone, sold between 900,000 and 6.2m albums in the U.S. alone during a run of 10 albums, and globally between 1.1m and 16.0m across 14 straight albums with only their 15th and last album coming in at under 1 million.

To claim they have no bangers is wrong. I mean you may not like them but their catalog isn't dominated by soft material.

People can like what they like though I won't belabor it more.

I used to be able to recite, "It's the end of the" 99% word for word but those days are long gone. Document released the year I graduated h.s. and was heard at parties for moths.

I still remember hearing Radio Free Europe for the first time as a new release on KQ of all places.

Also the first time hearing Document, and I was on a beach in Florida in November when Green came out.

A few songs from New Adventures were a highlight in bars when I was living in Bahrain.

I listened to bunch of R.E.M. today just for this reason
