Best one time live performance

Post by Sellingguy »

What are some of the best live performances that are pretty much a one off deal.

As I mentioned in the prince thread, his Super Bowl and Rock and Roll HOF Show are 2 of the best.

Ann and Nancy Wilson with Jason on the drums for the Kennedy Center honors show doing Stairway to Heaven.
Might be the best rendition of that song ever with all the extras they had.

Just saw Steven Tyler with Slash for the Stern Bday show doing Dream On.

The Prince and Heart ones were fantastic!

Some of the rock band collaborations with Orchestra's have been pretty good. A few of my favorites are:
Metallica with the San Francisco Symphonic Orchestra
Tommy Shaw (styx) with the Cleveland Youth Orchestra
YES with the European Festival Orchestra

Beatles' rooftop concert in 1969? Mostly because it was their final public performance and happened 2+ years after they'd stopped touring.

55th anniversary of it is a week from today.

Can't believe I forgot about that one. That would be #1 for me.

Of course the roof top beatles was epic, I am talking more about where a two or more artists perform together for a special show like the HOF.

A good one I saw the other day, Little Big Town doing Fleetwood Mac and Keith Urban joins them and does a guitar solo. I think it was the big CMA 50th Year concert.

Playing for Change has some good stuff.

That Stairway to Heaven rendition has to be the #1. That video gives me the chills it's so beautiful and well done.

Dwight and Alison Krauss signing "If I were a carpenter" at a Johnny Cash tribute concert is one of my favorites. I'm a fan of both artists. And I'm a fan of duets where you combine a beautiful voice like Alison's with a non conventional voice like Dwight's.

So live one-offs probably I'd nominate Price, Tom Petty, Steve Wynwood, Jeff Lynne and Dhani Harrison playing While My Guitar Gently Weeps, and similarly the Concert for George tribute following Harrison's death especially the performance with Billy Preston taking lead on Isn't It a Pity.

Foo Fighters and Queen doing We Will Rock You, and finally Bruce Springsteen, Dave Grohl and Paul McCartney at Glastonbury performing I've Got a Feeling.

When they rehearsed they asked prince what he wanted to do. He said, dont worry, I will work something in.

King's x played Woodstock and killed it even though no one knew who they were. They were then supposed to go on jon Stewart for their coming out party...then the LA riots happened and they played with no audience and no one watched the show that night.

Travelin’ Man into Beautiful Loser on Live Bullet.—-BS

Astronomy on Some Enchanted Evening—-BOC

Number of the Beast on Live After Death—-IM

These were all once in a lifetime performance that were never approached again. These bands have played these songs thousands of times, but never better than these single versions. Good thing they were rolling tape so we’d capture them forever.
