Another season of HS hockey is now well underway. My Hornets are talented and have 2 stars in Bobby Cowan and Jackson Nevers. Coach Curt Giles recently got his 500th win as coach of the Hornets!

Hornets fall to BSM 3-1...The box score looks like it was a wild game! BSM outshot Edina 21-16 in the FIRST PERIOD and there were boatloads of roughing penalties and even a misconduct. HOLY COW! Meanwhile, Slappy's Skipper team rolled to their 4th straight victory over Eastview and they look like the team to beat at this early stage of the season. Rodent recruit Javon Moore is off to a sizzling start and can't wait till we see him in Dinkytown!

Skippers look awfully good on paper, but it's early and they've had consensus #1 teams fall short before.
Thinking of getting a subscription to mnhockey.tv (I think that's the one) because free streams appear to be a thing of the past which is pretty annoying.

Leon ventured a few blocks down County road E on the 24th to watch the WBL Bears face off against Duluth East in the season opener for both - the Bears play their home games at TCO Sports Garden, otherwise know as the worst arena to watch a hockey game. Pretty evenly matched contest that saw the Bears triumph 4-3. They hosted Rosemount last Thursday and jumped out to the dreaded 2 goal lead only to see the Irish rattle off 5 unanswered tallies. ( Leon watched this tilt on the Horn, the WBL internet channel )
The annual matchup between WBL and the Evil Empire ( Hill-Murray ) takes place on December 23rd at an arena that Leon played many of his High Schools St Paul City Conference games, Aldrich arena, Get your tickets early as Leon is sure this game will be a sellout !!!

Who do you like this year Munger?. Give me your top 5. Doesn’t matter if they’re A or AA. I have no feel for it until mid January.

Too early for year end predictions but Minnetonka certainly looks like they could be competing for their 2nd straight title...they are LOADED. Always gotta throw support towards my Hornets and they have 2 studs in Cowan and Nevers. One team I know virtually nothing about but have caught my eye in the MN Hockey Hub rankings is Rogers. They had a really good team last year and are off to a great start so far.TheLokNesMonster wrote: ↑Sun Dec 10, 2023 7:46 pm Who do you like this year Munger?. Give me your top 5. Come mid-late January I will update and give my better informed opinion on a top 5 at that point!

Chanhassen took Tonka to OT on Thursday. As a Skippers fan I did not.like seeing that result.

DREAM TEAM
Johnny Conlin, Mounds View, senior forward
An underrated playmaker, he piled up six goals and six assists in the season's first four games, well on his way to matching his totals last season of 25 goals and 36 assists. He does it with speed and great vision. College: undecided.
Joey Mugaas, Orono, senior defense
Spartans coach Sean Fish calls Mugaas "a human breakout machine." Tallied 30 assists as a junior and hasn't lost his touch through six games. He leads Orono with eight points (three goals and five assists). College: undecided
Mason McElroy, Benilde-St. Margaret's, senior goalie
The Red Knights jumped to a 5-0 start this season. The victories shared a common denominator — McElroy's stellar work between the pipes. The captain has permitted seven goals (1.45 per game) and stopped 92% of shots faced. College: undecided
Javon Moore, Minnetonka, senior forward
Turned his solid combination of size (6-4, 180 pounds) and rink sense into a team-leading 16 points through the Skippers' first five games. His coach, Sean Goldsworthy, believes Moore has National Hockey League potential. College: committed to Minnesota
Jackson Rudh, Park of Cottage Grove, junior forward
Offensive dynamo accounted for at least one goal in each of the Wolfpack's first three games, all victories. A team leader who competes at a high level. College: undecided
John Stout, Minnetonka, senior defense
A Star Tribune All-Metro first-team selection as a junior, Stout has continued his ascent into one of the state's finest blueliners. Only two assists so far this season, but expect his point total to climb. College: committed to Minnesota Duluth

It would be quite the treat to see these teams go against each other for the 3rd time in a state final. I truly enjoy the rivalry and respect the hell out of the Edina program.

1 week to Hockey Day MN in Warroad. Warroad vs Roseau will be EPIC!
I was lucky enough to squeeze in the gardens for this matchup many many years ago in the days of Neal Broten and Dave Christianson.

Re: ***Official 23-24 High School Hockey Chat***
Good Lord - Tonka beat STMA 18-0 and their highest rated prospect only had 1 A. Yet they may not even make it out of their section because Chanhassen is also very, very good this year. Edina and Wayzata unfortunately are also share a section so only one of those very good teams will make it to the X.
btw the Tonka boys and girls hockey and bb teams have something like a combined 3 total losses so far.

HDM off to a great start Thur and Fri. A former rube that lives up there says it is amazing what the town has done.
Today the warroad girls kick it off. Using native language on their jersey, native drum ceremony and Bouche's granddaughter doing the puck drop!

Re: ***Official 23-24 High School Hockey Chat***
Was a heck of a game if you tuned in. Wayzata was the better team in the 1st and took a 2-0 lead. Tonka slowly chipped away to go ahead 3-2, fell behind 4-3, tied it in the 3rd and won in OT. SOG were pretty even for both teams.

Tremendous game at Aldrich last night as the Hornets prevail 5-3 over the Pioneers. It's a down year for Hill Murray but coach Lechner always has his boys playing well come state tourney time so one can nevah count them out. Right now Minnetonka can lay claim to the top spot in state but Wayzata and the Hornets are not too far behind....
The Hornets & Pioneers go at it again tonight at Braemar and it should be anotha good one!

If I head correctly on Beyond the Pond this morning, Minnetonka has 9 Division 1 commitments? That if f'kin insane. Of course Slappy will come here and spout off that lots of teams have players that didn't grow up in their respective cities.....and he'd be right! Regardless of how the team came together, Tonka looks to be the team to beat again. There's a small handful of teams that could beat them if the stars align, but the state title is there's to lose. Looking forward to seeing Javon Moore in a Rodent uniform in a year or two!

Like I said Chanhassen could prevent them from even making state, Edina and Wayzata have already taken them to OT, BSM is not quite there but still a threat.
One thing we can all agree on is I hope Roseau makes it back to state this year.
