It's brutal. Why even bother recruiting high school kids anymore?

Re: 2024 transfer portal chaos thread
The ugly side of this is, not all athletic scholarships are guaranteed for 4 years. They are renewed each year. So it's very possible a college coach extended an offer to a kid and said kid accepted a scholarship offer his freshmen year. But after, said freshmen year the coach does NOT extend that offer again for said kids sophomore year.jffl_commish wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 5:48 pmIt's brutal. In the early years of Saban, he was notorious for extending offers to kids but then would get commits from others and decline the offers he submitted.
College sports, akin to politics, is a dirty dirty business

I don’t know if it’s good or bad. Won’t it level the playing field some? Won’t the Georgia-type teams lose kids looking for playing time? I see QB Tyler Buchner from Alabama has entered the transfer portal. He was the No. 41 overall recruit in 2021. He appeared in 2 of the tides first 3 games this season, but got beat out by Jalen Milroe.Sellingguy wrote: ↑Mon Nov 27, 2023 10:35 am Does anyone else think the entire transfer thing is not good for college sports?

It truly is awful, especially for teams like the Gophers. As soon as you develop a guy, you lose him to a school that will pay more.jffl_commish wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 5:48 pmIt's brutal. Why even bother recruiting high school kids anymore?

What’s the QB from New Hampshire all about? Max Brosmer transferring here. Looks like he had solid numbers there.

Ranked top 10 for QBs in the portaljffl_commish wrote: ↑Sun Dec 03, 2023 10:07 pm They got the New Hampshire QB. But after what to think of that, but better than no one I guess. Can he play in the bowl game?

Sounds like Caleb Williams won't play in USC's bowl game. That's another thing about college football that irks me now. Players getting paid, players transferring out whenever they want, teams like our Rodents getting invited to a bowl game, players on teams going to bowl games skipping the game because they might get an owie.....ridiculous.

I think Georgia has 3 QBs currently slated for next year that could start just about anywhere in the country.witljon wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 9:01 pmI don’t know if it’s good or bad. Inversely, the Gophers could receive a commit from the top FCS quarterback. So I can envision it working both ways.bubu dubu. wrote: ↑Tue Dec 05, 2023 12:52 amIt truly is awful, especially for teams like the Gophers. Re: 2024 transfer portal chaos thread
think of some of the top guys weve had recently...Bateman, Winfield Jr, Tyler Johnson, Ibrahim, Mafe, etc...etc...those are the kind of guys that now other schools will steal easily. An FCS QB does no make up for the type of talent that the Gophers will not be able to retain.WannaBeProGolferGuy wrote: ↑Tue Dec 05, 2023 1:40 pmInversely, the Gophers could receive a commit from the top FCS quarterback.
