Interesting…
The Minnesota Vikings are preparing for a potential scenario where they start Sam Darnold at QB in 2024 and look to the 2025 Draft for a new starter.
Via ESPN report Kevin Seifert.

"not awful" isn't a ringing endorsement. that's my problem with a penix pick. with that injury history it's hard to see him holding up in the NFL.

Na
Kurt Warner had him ranked 3rd behind Williams and Daniels.

Rick Spielman likes him here too and said he’s going to be one of the better QBs in the draft.
We need to be finding something higher though.

Does Rattler have the game to match the name? I doubt it. Maye is target #1, McCarthy #2 and Penix #3.

We need to be finding something higher though.
https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/ja ... b80a&ei=12“Let me make this clear, Phil. The Vikings want to connect with Jayden Daniels. So, this would be more the Jayden Daniels camp [saying], ‘we think our client is going No. 2 to Washington or his floor is No. 3 to New England, we really don’t think New England is going to move off of No. 3 so why have him do all these meetings? It’s already been a lengthy, grueling pre-draft process, let’s not overload him. Let’s have him focus on Washington; focus on New England. Do we need him to focus on the Vikings?'”
“So that’s where the Vikings are trying to sell the Daniels camp on, ‘yes, we are heavily interested. There is a scenario where we could land him. We want to do as much homework on him as possible’, so that’s where the dialogue continues. But make no mistake about this, the Vikings hope to connect with Jayden Daniels”

Minnesota Vikings just sent "their whole staff" including KAM & KOC to a private workout for Michael Penix Jr.
It's been 32 years since one of MN's four major sports teams has been to the Championship/Superbowl.
Every single year is failure until we win one. 4 teams, 32 years. That's roughly 128 consecutive failed seasons.

I think they want to trade up for a top guy. If they strike out. I think they like Penix enough to take him. Maybe even at 11.

I keep circling back to it’s going to be three first-round picks, meaning Minnesota at 11 and 23 and their first-round pick next year. From what I’m hearing, it’s going to take a lot more than that for the Patriots to be moved off their spot. Because they as a team, collectively, understand the opportunity that these three quarterbacks represent at the top of the Draft.

But I heard someone phrase it thusly:
Imagine everything about the Vikings and Patriots was the same, except the Vikings had the #3 pick and the Patriots had the 11 and 23. Given the state of their rosters, there’s no question the Vikings would go QB at 3. But would there be any talk of the Patriots trying to trade up for 3? I doubt it. They’d be saying that having 2 first rounders is an excellent opportunity for them to give a bad roster a much-needed talent infusion.
Adding picks just makes a lot of sense for New England. Especially since Maye (of the top-3) is probably the most dependent on having talent around him.

I envisioned this as a direct convo between Kwesi and Elliott Wolf, and Wolf ended with that phrase.
My response was intended in the voice of Kwesi, just being frustrated for having time wasted, because three firsts is perfectly inline with the market of previous trades.
If Wolf is now saying that is not enough and they're excited for the QBs, then you're not really in the market in the first place, because there really should be no number that is enough to walk away from a QB of this potential.

They might. I think the idea that you build up your roster and then get your QB once that is done has merit. Do the Patriots believe in that? I don’t know. But we’ve seen a lot of hotshot rookie QBs fail at least in part because of bad talent around them. See Justin Fields for a nearby recent example.witljon wrote: ↑Sat Apr 06, 2024 11:56 amI still don’t think the Patriots will be trading the no. 3 pick.Beef Supreme wrote: ↑Sat Apr 06, 2024 11:07 amIt’s all smokescreen and innuendo right now.Oriole81 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 06, 2024 8:52 am

Also, they’ve directly said a lot of things indicating they’re willing to deal. I don’t know why they’d do that if it weren’t true.
I also think the giants don’t go QB unless a top guy falls and they can’t refuse. I don’t think they move up or reach for a next tier guy at 6. They can get one of the WRs with that pick and any of the three would really help them.

The only thing is Kraft essentially saying 3 is nice but a team might be desperate for a QB. What does that look like in his mind?
Anything beyond the 3 firsts is way out line IMO. That's already a massive haul for an unknown speculative pick. 2nd round picks can usually get you a very good proven NFL player in a trade. Usually because someone isn't ready to pay him or it's just time for a change.
That's a lot of draft capital. 3 firsts... I think it's a risk Minn is fairly positioned for because of the cap next offseason and their ability to lure Free Agents.
Another cool thing it does do is puts a real emphasis on putting in the work for diamonds in the rough later in the draft. When you hit on those guys it changes everything and can overcome bad decisions early in the draft or not having those choices.

I read about Spielman liking him alot and thought, " Ruh Row Raggy!" But in all seriousness he would probably be a nice 3 rd round pick or so. I would be all for the last rumor I've seen today with the Vikes picking Nix at 23. Going BPA at 11 and taking a later round flyer on Rattler would be fine with me.Sergeant Rubetube wrote: ↑Thu Apr 04, 2024 7:52 pmRick Spielman likes him here too and said he’s going to be one of the better QBs in the draft.
