***Official "The Open" gawlf tourney thread***

Or as Colin Morikawa likes to say, "the British Open!" One of my favorite tournaments to watch but the bummer of course is that I need to wake up super early to watch much of it. One fun day 1 highlight is sure to be Patrick Cantlay and Brooks Koepka in the same group! As you remember, Koepka was NOT pleased with the pace of play from Cantlay in a previous tourney so it will be interesting to see if that becomes an issue.

SO many great golfers out there these days so really hard to pick a winner. Rory has been hot lately so he has to be a favorite, but I'm going with my heart and picking Jordan Spieth. Jordan won this back in 2017 and has contended a couple of other times and I just like the guy in general....hope he plays well!

The current favorites in order are Scheffler, Rahm, Koepka, Rory, Cantlay, and Victor Hovland.

Super psyched to see how this plays out! Weather as usual could be a factor with windy conditions and weekend rain likely.

i think rahm's another golfer that might be suffering from the green jacket hangover. they win the biggest tournament of the year and the golf game goes a little south for a duration. some players become a little satisfied once they've reached the summit and they lose that subtle edge for one reason or another. i don't know if DJ has ever recovered his peak form since putting that jacket on.

brian harmon is the story early this morning in round two. he's contended in majors before if i'm remembering correctly and i'd like to see him in one of the final groups tomorrow. whether you like that or not, it's probably going to happen.

harmon eagles 18 to fire a six under 65 and is 10 under for the championship. i'll pencil him in for the final group tomorrow right now. not pen, so i can erase if need be. doubt the eraser will be needed though.

Was a wonderful round of golf for the little guy. Jordan is currently at 3 under so I'm happy about that. Enjoyed watching a few John Daly shots earlier today!

Damn....Jordan had it to 5 under but now has bogeyed 2 in a row so he's back to -3. Gotta find a way to get those 2 strokes back before his round is ovah.

Harmon in the drivers seat after round 2 with an amazing 5 stroke lead. One would have to think that only those that are within 7 or 8 shots have any shot to beat him and that leaves us with 9 golfers who still have hope, including Spieth. HOWEVER, the weekend will bring lousy weather conditions to the men and sometimes that can have a more dramatic effect on scoring....should be a dilly of a weekend and although I want Spieth to win I wouldn't mind seeing Harmon get his first major.

rahm shoots himself back into the championship with an 8 under 63. harmon bogeys number one. rory and jason day with good starts. the lead is down to three right now.

Jason Day makin a move!! Jordan just can't hit a putt today so his thoughts of a championship are pretty much ovah...

Harmon starts and ends the day with a 5 stroke lead...his first major is SO close he can taste it!

once he birdied the par 5 he settled down and played a real solid round. he did what you need to do when you have a five shot lead. it won't be easy on sunday though. it never is.

harmon seemingly in full control and still with a five shot lead as he plays 13. let's see what happens from here.

that's a hiccup for harmon. first short putt he's missed in the championship. the lead's down to four. i remember scott with a four shot lead with four to go and not winning. of course there's the van de velde meltdown on 18 at carnoustie.

harmon drops in a bomb on 14 after that bogey on 13. back to 12 under. straka is tight on 16 to cut the lead back to four though.

straka gets to 8 under. matthew jordan, the club pro from the home course, birdies 18 to finish the championship at four under.
