got me thinking of a couple 2022 starters and what they're up to. looks like chris archer is still a free agent. dylan bundy recently signed a minor league contract with the mets.

I don't get how they do the off day thing in the first series. Why not have day 4 be the off day in case weather influences the regularly scheduled first 3 games?

It mainly is done to inflate ticket prices for that first game. They can sell tickets to Opening Day, and it gives them two chances to get that game in.
