Hard to remember some of these old takes, but I don’t remember thinking KD would be in the conversation for GOAT scorer. I don’t remember exactly what I thought of him, but it wasn’t that.
FWIW, I do remember believing all the hype about LeBron. I was pretty sure he’d be an all-time great. I wasn’t way out on a limb or swimming against the stream with that take or anything, but there it was.
I was not that high on Dwyane Wade, though. I thought he could score, but didn’t think he’d be all-around dominant like he was. I thought he’d be along the lines of Richard Jefferson or Jason Richardson or something like that. Good, useful player, but not a stud.
Not sure why I’m reminiscing about 20+ year old draft takes, but I guess it beats most of the dumb shit in this thread…

All my old draft takes were bulletproof.
For example, Justise Winslow and his numerous All-Defense appearances.

If we’re bringing up old draft debates, nothing will ever top on the old rube chat the debate between Jamal Murray/buddy hield/kris Dunn back in 2016.

Honestly, it was about the lack of protections on the picks. I thought the picks should have been more strongly protected, to guard against disaster. 4 picks in the 20s is no big deal, but multiple lotto picks could have been a disaster.
But so far it looks like we’re avoiding that fate. So good.

That would be me...glad to be wrong. I will say, if Ball could stay healthy, he would be a perennial all star. He affects the game is so many ways. Sadly, I don't this his body is going to hold up.

I remember being in a back and forth with a guy that said he wouldn't draft Jayson Tatum if he made it to us, because he would be redundant with Wiggins.
Man, that didn't age well.

Re: KATs value
you got some nice ones in there. i should look back and see which ones i liked who turned out okay.
here's some i hit on reasonably considering their draft position:
2022 - Andrew Nembhard 31, Vince Williams Jr. 47
2021 - Dayron Sharpe 29, Ayo Dosumnu 38
2020 - Immanuel Quickley 25, Desmond Bane 30
2019 - Nic Claxton 31, Daniel Gafford 38
2018 - Robert Williams III 27
2017 - Josh Hart 30
2016 - Pascal Siakam 27, Malcolm Brogdon 36
If I recall, I lobbied for all these guys.

My biggest talking points for being in favor of the Gobert trade was we were sticking our neck out and going for it. Our draft history being poor and the team that gets the best player in a trade typically wins the trade. And I remember listing a bunch of our bad draft picks and saying the players we traded were the type that will be available in free agency.Beef Supreme wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2024 9:32 am

I agree with all that, I just felt we could have insisted on more protections in n rhe picks. I don’t mean complete lottery protection all the way through, I just mean more than we got. I don’t think Utah walks away from the deal if we do. Maybe I’m wrong about that.witljon wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2024 2:19 pmMy biggest talking points for being in favor of the Gobert trade was we were sticking our neck out and going for it. There was even more negative feedback when Towns came in after losing a bunch of weight from being sick and then getting injured while Gobert played with a bad back. I remember it being called the worst trade in sports history not only by some Wolves fans, but also by some in the national media.Beef Supreme wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2024 3:19 pmI agree with all that, I just felt we could have insisted on more protections in n rhe picks. The bad back thing really worried me. There wasn’t a dramatic injury ever. It was just like his back was sore and limiting him. I worried about damaged goods. Like a 31 year-old giant human’s back probably doesn’t get better as he ages.
I was off on that too.

Every single year is failure until we win one. 4 teams, 32 years. That's roughly 128 consecutive failed seasons.

big Culver fan, but i lost my Jones for him when I did my daily eyes closed FT challenge at the after school program where I worked - and after about two weeks of shooting ten per day, determined I was a better FT shooter blind than he was with his eyes open. that guy, at least early on, had his photo in the dictionary under "deer in headlights".salamander wrote: ↑Wed Feb 28, 2024 12:41 pmI'm with you there. I wanted Shan Foster in 2008 somehow (like our Mario Chalmers or Pek pick I guess), - 47% 3 pt shooter his senior year (42 career) .... never even played an NBA game. he was 10 years too early maybe!

Dude had a less than 50% FT % a couple years. I was never a good shooter in basketball (was always a really good rebounder and defensive guy/played center) and I had a better FT% than him too.
