Why I hated this hire in the first place was there wasn’t time to be giving someone two years of passes after the Pitino experiment. This program is buried.
I just read in the Trib today that they are averaging 8k tickets sold and only scanning an average at 3K at the door.
Nobody cares anymore. Lowest attendance in 5 decades. Exactly what I was afraid of when they hired him. No one cares about what’s coming next year or the close losses at this point. Every year it’s “We got so and so coming” and every year they suck.
Whoever the next coach is will have a reclamation project like no one has faced here before.
They need to go find a proven HC with a track record. It’s been amateur hour for far too long here.
Pitino even seems better than what we have now. There was at least a buzz here for awhile with Pitino and I see he has the Lobos in the top 25. There was never a buzz around the Johnson hire. I’ve never seen that here.
Pitino's hype in NM is going to wear off after a couple of years like it did here. Last night his team blew a double-digit lead at home against UNLV. Same song and dance. Beat up a bunch of nobody's in the non-conference, break into the top 25, and shit the bed in big games at home.
Johnson started behind the 8-ball because he lost 75% of the roster when he was hired. Most of us agreed that Johnson can recruit, but can he get guys who buy-in, want to stay, and then add depth in the transfer portal (not the other way around). This team will never win if it has to rely on the transfer portal. IMO, this is 4-5 year project.
He's got 8 guys on the roster from Minnesota, 6 of them are freshmen and sophomores. Lets see how these players grow and develop.

Spot on. And Pitino can have all the success he at New Mexico... it's New Mexico... he'd look to bolt the first opportunity to get back to a true high major school making more money.
I was surprised when Ben was the hire but it made sense. Local guy, former player here, long time assistant coach and his whole thing is relationship based. If you can't win with short term transfers you to build longterm relationships. Cam Christie and Dennis Evans will help this program out a lot eventually. I like the foundation Ben has but it sucks to have two guys out with injuries for the second year in a row and the lack of a good pg hurts plenty this year too. I think Cooper is a decent combo but probably needs to play off the ball more than on the ball...

This all access format sucks. I had to turn off the volume.
I thought the same thing at first, but the more I watched, the more intense it got, really fun. I don't think I could watch it every game all game, but a nice change. Good win tonight.

Got bailed out by a bad call, that was a clear block, but the fellas sure needed a win.
I think he had an easy layup on the other side of the rim after the gather. If so, that foul benefited OSU more than it did the Gophers as that layup would have run the clock out likely as well.
Now's the time to get those long-occupied lower bowl season tickets. Watch them beat up on 10 directional schools before going sub .500 in the Big Ten.
Ben is not on the hot seat. Period. Their current freshmen class is pretty decent. Their incoming class is great. Get them all together and guys back from injury and things will change, very fast. This year will continue to suck though.

We will see. Heard this year after year after year with Pitino too. I would hope he can do something, it’s going to be year #3.
And is this team actually going to be good or “Good” for what the good Gopher seasons have been lately? Meaning middle of the pack and a bubble team.
