called my brother a couple of weeks ago about the idea of sunday afternoon foursomes. of course a new idea is hit with objections as to why it might not work instead of a little enthusiasm. talked about it for awhile because the objections were paper thin excuses--but it was duly noted. i'll wait to see if he calls me about playing. it wasn't that big of a deal to me and if there's some resistance i'll let it drop.

might play with my daughter and grandson sometime later this summer.

It will be interesting to see if the golf boom continues for a 3rd year.
The cool late start clearly is not helping, but there was plenty of spots last tues at The Summit.

I had checked several other courses and found the same thing. Last year getting a same day tee time was almost impossible at many course, esp in metro.

Yesterday I figured I would go play a round somewhere. Looked at several courses and while they had some spots, there were no open 4 somes till later in the day. As mentioned, im still getting used to my irons and I did not feel like joining people I dont know. Normally I enjoy that aspect of just heading to a course. Have met some great people.

Of course it being the holiday weekend played into that. With Todays late start due to rain, my guess is many places are booked up and I know a few courses that are booked Sunday and Monday.
Guess I will go play next Wed since I have stuff to do on Tues. I really need to get in golf shape. Im not ready to play 2 rounds in a day and it is something I tend to do when I go play my clients.

almost everyone brings their best attitudes to the golf course when they get grouped with other players they haven't met before. i know i do and i most always liked joining up with them if i was a single.

I have back out of a couple of groups because I could tell they did not want stranger in the group for what ever reason. I just let them go and stay close behind them. And I have also said no thanks to joining a group I have been playing behind. There are days I just want to play alone and enjoy the peace and quiet.
My favorite tee time is 1st off the tee and hopefully I dont catch up to the grounds crew. I can get 18 done in just over 2 hours.

playing as a single and meeting up with another single is nice. i've had that early morning tee time a few times too. feet get wet and you usually do catch up to the grounds crew eventually. but you get the round in quick. quick enough that you can play another one later that day.

Yesterday I was paired with a 2-some. Drive off 1st tee box I wrenched my back something awful to the point I dropped to my knees. I was thinking oh no this will be ugly today. Turns out it was to my benefit as I was scared to swing too hard in fear of hurting my back again. Subsequently, I was forced to narrow my stance and swing easy and free. Wouldn't you know I had one of my best rounds ever. Ended up with an 83. 43 on the front and 40 on the back. Mix in 3 birdies and 3 double bogeys. If I would have made bogey instead of double and eliminate just 1 3 putt then I could have broked 80--which I have only done one time.

Awesome day on the course. I suspect the next time I golf it will be the opposite and will shoot 100

Yes the dew of the morning is always a factor, but that is also why I have 4 pairs of golf shoes. One pair is the FJ Synthetics. Warm too for chilly days and feet stay dry. Catching the the crew is a touchy subject depending on the course. If I see them up on the green, i will not tee off until they are gone. At some courses they will get out of the way and let you play through. I dont like that. At some courses they get pissed if a golfer is waiting on them. Few summers ago I was at Maddens and going first off the tee almost every morning on PB East course. The course super got on the starters ass about letting me out too early.

Good Lord was today brutal on the course. Played Fox Hollow in the St. Michael Albertville area, Great course but 30 MPH gusts are not this amateur hacks fortay. At one point, I lost 2 balls on the same hole and said Fug It for this hole as I am taking a break. The highlight was I had been paired with a fella from Miami and his 86 year-old step-dad. The 86 year-old said the F word and slammed his club down more than I did.

Played all 27 at Meadow Greens in Austin on Wed and played 18 at Hidden Haven yesterday.

I got a bad case of the lefties off the tee. Scrambled around both rounds playing from the left side most of the day. Normally my tee shot is just straight down the middle, maybe a little left to right.
Something is clearly off in my set up. Im sure I could go to the range and smack them straight all day.

We will try again next week.

Played Oakdale golf club in Buffalo Lake. Nice small town course. Good shape.

Played Eagle Creek and Little Crow in Willmar Spicer . Fantastic tracks with rock hard fast greens.

I am spraying my driver all over the place (akin to Peter North on old school Porn) Duck hook left, top shot, push right followed by a slice then will hit a nice fade--which I have no idea how or why I am doing it.

3 wood and 4 wood of the tee are straight as an arrow. so I am thinking of using 3 or 4 wood off the tee to ensure I am in the fairway.

**Wish I could help with the lefties off the tee but I got nothin. Sorry SG :(

Im just off in my set up and at times i can feel my swing all out of whack. It is a bit in my head, a bit *alot* out of shape**. What is frustrating that it just showed up in the middle of the 2nd round of year.

Last 2 rounds were a bit better, but i was scrambling both rounds. good tee shot, fuck up approach, get chip close, miss putt. Bad tee shot, rip a 3wood to the green, miss putts.
Irons were all over the place.

So Friday I go to the range. pw, 9, 8, 7 and driver. split the bucket in to 5 piles and start with PW. 12 shots per iron are damm near perfect. So i found the set up for the new irons. Pick up driver and 5 decent drives. 7 all over the place
Now since i was 50 shots in, maybe a bit tired. Today I will start driver and work down long irons.

Played 18 yesterday, couldn't hit my driver with chit but was bombing 3 wood off the tee, puring my irons like Rory but short game ( chipping and pitching) was akin to the 2009 Favre/Childress debacle but my putting held up.

Played 18 today and was bombing my driver, but couldn't hit my 3wood or irons worth chit (thinned 80% of them) but my short game was on fire, however, my putter choked like a MN sports team in the playoffs.

Honest to god with that damn golf, what is your strength one day is your weakness the next.

Played 18 today and hit EVERY fairway on the par 4's and 5's with my driver! Sadly each hole then requires good short games and puttin and I ended up with a 105!! :pissed:

Reminds me of a round i played at Eagle Valley. Through ten, I was fairway, green, 2 putts on 8 of the 10 and 2 over. 11-18 I was left rough off the tee, short of green on approach and 7 over.

Played today for the 1st time in about 3 weeks and the golf gods were with me. I had 3 misplaced drives which hit a tree and magically bounced in the fairway. 1 of which was a 530 yard Par 5 that my 2nd shot I hit 3 wood of the deck and rolled over the green, chipped on then made a birdie!! Rather proud of myself since I have been working on a 3wood & 4 wood fof the deck for a 200+ yard approach shot on Par 5's. And it worked!!

I royally futzed up 17 & 18 with a double on each. Ball below my feet is my nemesis. For the life of me I can not hit that shot and always always always leads to a shank despite watching several instruction videos.

Nice! Yesterday, I shot 43 on the front nine and 39 on the back 9. Been working on my driver the last few weeks since I have been slicing and pushing right. What a difference, straight and long (that is what she said)

started on back 9 and blew up to a 50 at Albany. Opened up front with 4 pars the double 4 of the last 5 and ended up with a 45. I really dont mind a 95 on a course i have never seen before.
Missed the green too much on the back 9. That course is a very nice track and perfect greens.
I was the first putt on many as they were cutting today. Very fast. Very windy today didnt help.

I will play thumper tomorrow around noon. I got to albany at 710am and tee'ed off at 720am no warm up.

I hear ya. Playing a course for the 1st time is always a challenge. I am the same in that I don' really warm up. A few stretches here and there then get after it.

I played at Kimball Golf Club last weekend for the 1st time and will attack it either tomorrow or Friday since now I know how it plays.

4 holes 10, 8, 7, 7 and I keep it under 100 at Thumper Pond!
I will also say none of those holes had stupid missed birdi or par putts, which there was 5

Holy buckets, is the course that difficult or was it just one of those days where it takes a few holes to get into the groove?

I played today and shot 38 on the front and 39 on the back with a chip-in birdie on #18 :naners: Will be enjoying a few distilled spirits to celebrate

No it is all me. That was not the first 4 holes. Had a nice streak of par or bogy with many missed puts between the bad holes. Back hurts, achilles tendon hurts, im out of shape and just cant find my grove.
I will get there. Im a 80 90 guy and happy about that. Have sprinkled in a few 77.76 each year too.

F'king golf I tell ya. Played the exact course today that I did on Wednesday and shot a 90. But on Tuesday shot a 77. Only difference was I played from the furthest tee's today which was only 10-15 yards different but the driver was inconsistent, the irons were brutal, the short game horrendous and the putting was Happy Gilmore-esque.

Headwaters in Park Rapids is in amazing condition! My game, ..well. a 94 and I blew up 18.
Hit most fairways, and of course fucked up the approach and missed putts.

96 at Blueberry Pines today. 3 bad holes. a 9 on a par 5, a 7 on a par 4 and 5 on a 3.
While the scores seem to be close, im getting closer. But im just dragging ass out there too.
a year off killed me and it is just time to stop smoking .

I am at the point of saying Fug It, playing golf for fun, and not worrying about my damn score. I shot an 84 today on a course I should routinely hit in the mid to upper 70s.
While driving home, I asked myself why I began golfing three years ago? The answer was that purring a 7 iron and watching it fly 170 yards was fun. Since then, I have been chasing the elusive Break 100, then Break 90 (which I can do routinely) the break 80 ( which I have done once or twice). The reality is, that I am a bogey or par (at best) golfer and will remain that way unless I get coaching and dedicate hours of time to improve my game--of which I do not have.

I might as well just enjoy my time on the course.
