Any word on who gets sent down? Varland?
They already sent Louie down on Tuesday when they called up that Ortega guy. Ortega is headed back down to St. Paul when Maeda is officially activated.
Thanks. I'm usually a day or three behind/

Funny how incredibly quick things can change. Early this year we were patting ourselves on the back for our 5 man rotation of Ryan, Mahle, Grey, Maeda, and Lopez. Next year I could easily see 3 of those 5 gone with only Ryan and Lopez remaining....

twins starters have pitched the most innings in the major leagues this season. Fangraphs has the Twins' pitching staff ranked No. 1 in WAR (wins above replacement player) in all of baseball.

Twins' imported pitching — Sonny Gray, Joe Ryan, Pablo López and more — saving season
Baseball boss Derek Falvey has built the team's staff largely from outside the organization.

If the Twins were producing more runs, and if their bullpen hadn't encountered so many problems, the prevailing story of their season would be the construction and success of their rotation.

Sunday, the Twins rode another quality start to a series victory, as Bailey Ober pitched six strong innings in a 6-3. 10-inning victory at Detroit.

Sonny Gray ranks third in the American League in ERA, at 2.56. Joe Ryan ranks eighth, at 2.98. Pablo López ranks sixth in innings pitched; Ryan ranks ninth.

Ober has a 2.97 ERA. Kenta Maeda returned to the rotation Friday night with five shutout innings and eight strikeouts...The Twins are just one game over .500, but their run differential indicates they could be just a little more offensive production from becoming a quality team. Despite all of their injuries and bullpen shuffling, they are a plus-34 in run differential. That would be the second-best run differential in the much-celebrated American League East.

This is all well and fine but it's far too rose colored for my taste. The #3 team in our division has a -70 run differential and is only 4.5 games back. That shouldn't NOT be happening. If this was a good team, we'd have a double digit lead in our terrible division at minimum. Not a 1.5 game lead over the a bad Guardians team. We had a chance to completely put our boot on the Tigers throat and then went and lost 4 out of 7 against them. Pathetic.

There are 11 teams who are not leading their division that are better than us. We have the worst record in the league compared to all other division leaders.
It's been 32 years since one of MN's four major sports teams has been to the Championship/Superbowl.
Every single year is failure until we win one. 4 teams, 32 years. That's roughly 128 consecutive failed seasons.

Bailey Ober finishes his first half with a 2.61 ERA and 79 strikeouts in 82 2/3 innings across 14 starts. Six of his final seven starts of the half were quality starts, and he completed at least five innings in all 14 of his starts.

Joe Ryan didn't allow multiple homers in any of his first 10 starts of the season, but has since done so four times in the last eight starts.

If this is the #MNTwins third starter come the postseason, they’ve done well.

Kenta Maeda: "Everything body wise and arm, is feeling good. I keep saying this again and again, but there's nothing concerning in the arm. If anything, I feel better than pre-surgery."

Also credited Ryan Jeffers: "I really love his pitch calling."

Everyone has been kind of assuming Maeda won't be back next year. Wonder if he'd accept a 2-year deal for like 25 million.

Yeah, will be interesting to see how the starting 5 pan out. Crazy to think we had Mahle, Maeda, Gray, Ryan, and Lopez penciled in to start the year and there's a decent chance only Lopez and Ryan will be in Minnesota next year. Just when you think you have yourself a solid rotation, BOOM.....then you don't.

Rocco said there isn't any innings restrictions on him this year, but i'm wondering if his arm is tired?

i'd have to think he's pitching for his spot in the rotation tonight. at least for one turn. if he bombs bring up the dobber to take his place for the next one.

if they're thinking of putting maeda in the bullpen for the playoffs then they must be thinking of ryan being the third starter. hopefully they skip ober's next start that would be in texas.

The fatigue/problems for Ober/Ryan are concerning. Would prefer to see Keuchel in one of their spots with either as a piggyback.

I didn't see the game last night, but Ryan's line looked fine for his first start back. I would assume he's the #3 if he can approach the performance he had pre injury.
That's right cocksucker! Go back to New Jersey!
