I'd swear this series is in Chicago with all the Cub fans in Milwaukee. Gotta be close to 50/50.

Cubs have clinched at least a tie in the NL Central after piss pounding the Cards 10-2 last night.

Great to see the Lester pitch better. I like having Russell back at short and Baez at 2nd. The team is trending in the right direction at the right time.

See where Russell sent that guys nachos flying going for a foul ball and the next inning he brought him a new platter of them? That was classic. The Replacements wrote: ↑Tue Sep 26, 2017 3:10 pm Great to see the Lester pitch better. I like having Russell back at short and Baez at 2nd. It was a crazy scene. People were coming down to take pictures with him. The Cubs reporter did an in game interview. The girlfriend looked a little pissed about all the attention he was getting.

What a great night. My two favorite teams clinched a playoff spot on the same night.

Win Game 1 and watch the Nats doubt themselves. I like having Hendricks start tonight. He was really good last year in Game 6 against LA and Game 7 against Cleveland. Let's hope Joe doesn't have a quick hook with him.

This thread must not end with a Darvish comment. Need Bryant and Morrow back and let's roll.

Re: 2017 Cubs
Starting pitching really worries me. Not many guys who can eat up innings and while the pen has been good, they are getting a workout.
Darvish on the 60 day DL. Has been a disaster so far.
Lester has a great first half, but has struggled since the All Star Break.
Quintana has been disappointing overall as a Cub. Can't seem to win unless the Cubs score a bunch of runs.
Chatwood is just bad. He's not even good out of the pen with all the walks he gives up. Guy can't even go 5 innings as a starter because of his pitch count.
Hendrick is really up and down. He will show flashes then be bad. Another guy who seems to leave the game early and doesn't eat up innings often.
Montgomery is best used in the pen but he's been forced to start. He's OK but I worry about his pitch count as the season ends.
Hammels has been solid so far but you just have to hope he eats up innings and stays healthy. He's not the pitcher he once was and won't save the season, but the deal was a good one and he just needs to be solid.
The big worry is there are no guys in the minors who can be relied on to start. They already brought up some guys to spot start and they were awful. The best pitcher is the system is out for the year too and he wasn't ready anyway to come up. Eddie Butler flamed out and got traded and he could have been a useful spot starter had he pitched better.
This doesn't set up well for a deep playoff run. The offense is pretty good, the pen is really good, but you need starting pitching to carry you in a 162 game season.

Re: 2017 Cubs
Well so much for the offense being pretty good. For the past two months they've been bad. Only the Orioles have had more 1 run game this season. Oddly enough the pitching ended up being solid for the starters. The bullpen was up and down, but they did enough considering how depleted they were.
Fitting ending for the Cubs season last night. Terrible offense did them in again both in the play in game and WC game.
They have some fixing to do. Daniel Murphy is likely gone, and so is Addison Russell.

This team couldn't hit their way out of a phone booth. Very disappointed in the offense. I have to believe Chili Davis is gone and some big changes in the everyday line-up.Herky wrote: ↑Wed Oct 03, 2018 7:21 am Well so much for the offense being pretty good.
