The level of competition that he plays at Cherry High School is a legitimate concern. But on the flip side, he plays AAU ball in the metro during the offseason. That's a 3-hour drive. Kid seems committed to ball and getting better.

In the 125+ year history of Gopher Basketball, ten players have been honored with jersey retirement / banner raising. Four of those players have been from out-state MN and one from out-state WI. Zero of the ten players were from the Twin Cities metropolitan area. The other five were from Illinois, Detroit, or out east. Cherry is located like 10 miles from Hibbing where two of the U of M jersey retirements were from. Let's not overrate how important proximity to the metro area and the level of HS competition is toward college success.

Cooper will not be missed, certainly not as a starting point guard. Battle rumors have been out there for awhile... if Garcia was leaving I'd be worried, Battle regressed this year, maybe they can still talk him into coming back but sounds like he wants to play pro.

4 former Gophers made all conference with their new teams this week. Liam Robbins (Vanderbilt), Marcus Carr (Texas), Jamal Mashburn Jr. (New Mexico), and Gabe Kalscheur (Iowa State).

Three of 'em got an extra year because of covid too. Losing Robbins and Kalscheur was a surprise although Gabe wanted out if Pitino stayed. Mashburn and Carr were expected to leave. Lots of Gabe haters on this board!
