huge par putt made from about 40 feet for xander. now he goes into the third hole with some momentum and a chance for birdie.

a new leader. wyndham clark. rory has 10 feet for par on four and he misses it.

the short par 3 is funny. There is one at Deacon's Lodge, A Palmer Course at Breezy Point.
One time after playing a guy was complaining that he didnt pay 100 bucks to play some stupid short par 3. No champioinship course should have a hole that short.
He was pissed because he got a 5.

i think that this clark is going to have a good round today. i wouldn't be at all surprised if he has the lead at the end of the day.

fowler with a bomb for birdie. he's not going away anytime soon. clark hit a sweet chip to give him a chance to par the toughest hole on the course. and he makes it.

mcilroy gives himself a chance for birdie on 8. he misses though. xander has a chance for eagle. six foot two inches. he misses too. that's a disappointing birdie after his start.

that ball is below clark's feet on 8. he's going to have to try and make birdie the hard way. fowler has a chance to get on the green in two and he puts it in the bunker. nobody's gone low on the front nine among the leaders. clark's hit it the best. the only guy on the course who hasn't bogeyed a hole yet today.

you have to give schaffele a lot of credit for shooting that 35. things were spinning too fast/out of control for the first six holes but he did get it together. he could have shot himself out of it--but instead he shot himself back into it.

harris english is now three under after 10 for the day.

rory goes into neutral while xander goes forward. you can never forget that golf is 18 holes.

english missed a short putt for par on 11. fowler's in a spot of bother on 10.

and ricky hits a beautiful shot to keep himself at 10 under.

clark's first bogey and now fowler's tied for the lead again. mcilroy just misses his birdie putt to grab a portion of the lead too.

fowler's parred five straight holes (before this he hadn't parred three in a row) and that's enough to get him back in the lead again.

okay. ricky just makes a 69 foot bomb for birdie on 13. clark with a beautiful shot and thinking a possible two shot swing now has to make his putt to stay one back of fowler. he does.

scheffler eagles 17. that's gaining two and a half shots on the field. a birdie on 18 and he's going to be back in the conversation.

then fowler misses a five footer for birdie on the next hole. what a game.

scheffler gets his birdie on 18. three under on the last two holes. two under for the round.

fowler driving the ball beautifully on the back nine. that's kept him in the lead. clark keeping the pressure on.

then he hits it into a mess on 17 with his second shot. a chance for fowler to increase his lead.

clark hits a shot on 18 to about four and a half feet to get that lost shot back on 17. if he makes it he'll be in the last group again tomorrow. fowler has a two putt to keep the lead if clark does.

fowler burns the edge. i guess clark's putt might be closer to six feet. they just said it was six feet. he makes it and gives the fist pump.

fowler misses the par putt. he's got a farther putt for bogey. bad way to finish his round after he drove the ball so well on the back nine. makes the bogey putt and now we've got a tie for the lead going into the final round.

some of the freewheelers are putting up crooked red numbers. giving the guys who are a little further back some hope.

scheffler sure isn't putting a scare in the leaders on the par 5 first so far. rory is a different story. putting for eagle.
