They were just looking for funds to cremate.
$12 for some gasoline & wood. Do it like the Vikings of yore. It would be epic.
The real travesty here is that the man nor his family had the means to pay for the cremation.
That is sad. It’s not like cremation cost a shit ton of money...

What? Dead body disposal is a huge waste of money. Does the corpse know it’s in a $10,000 coffin?

Nope.
Real talk, when my Dad died the hospice/funeral home contact told me that as cremation is so much more mainstream they have places that just do cremation, or at least specialize in it. Not only were the folks incredibly kind, they were reasonable in their pricing and didn't mess around trying to push unnecessary services at me. I'm thankful for those people, and the burden they help people carry.
Seriously, I agree. It’s the funeral homes that push $30,000 funerals that irritate me...
Yeah.. I appreciate the niche funeral homes fill.. but mostly unnecessary. Like the BIg Lebowski... get me a coffee can.

When my wife’s granny died, she was cremated. The funeral home actually had us looking at $5000+ caskets to cremate her in. Seriously?

Nope.
Plus thats alot of good land wasted on a cemetery. I get kids or a spouse going to the plot (for the first few years) but who go visits ma and pa from the 1890's? Should have a mass cremation. Could do it after the funeral if it helps.

Not sure if you ever saw the story about the letter my dad's psycho ex gf sent me a few months after he passed. As I said, he was cremated and he sits on a shelf next to the mantle in a tasteful looking(cheap I'm sure) black plastic box.

She went out to the shitty Glen Burnie MD cemetery his mother is buried in and got a quote for the plot next to hers which just happened to be open. She also was quoted a price on a GRANITE BENCH that you could then inter his ashes in that would sit on the plot. His mother was a nut, who died before I was born, so she certainly never met her, and my Dad was specific about being cremated.

SO yeah, let me spend 10,000 so my I can go against his wishes and my Dad's remains can sit in a shitty cemetery half the country away from me..

Exactly. The building at the cemetery where my in-laws are buried has to have cost millions. They made that money off of guilt tripping survivors. Fuck them.

My brother and his wife spent $20,000 on the funeral for her mother. $10,000 casket. Luckily for them she had paid for it all before she died but still. $20,000 on your own funeral instead of giving that $$ to your kids?

My dad's funeral was like $250 total. Cremated. Some veterans group donated the box his ashes were put in and we buried his ashes next to his father. I gave that group a $50 donation as a thank you. City or the county paid for most of the funeral/cremation.
