Might be a good option in the bullpen heading down the stretch.

Brock Stewart is throwing out to 90 feet. No mound progression mapped out yet, but head athletic trainer Nick Paparesta said they'll hopefully get him off the mound next week at some point.

Pagan's ERA has dropped to 3.14 even with being worked into high leverage situations.

from the strib article today. the section on louie is the most interesting.

Do the Twins need to make any alterations to the back of their bullpen?

Since the All-Star break, the Twins' bullpen has the eighth-highest ERA (4.85). The team swapped Dylan Floro for Jorge López ahead of the trade deadline, and added setup man Caleb Thielbar from the injured list. It has been a tough stretch. though, for setup man Griffin Jax and closer Jhoan Duran.

Jax and Duran deserve time to work through their rough patches. If the Twins need to push another reliever into a larger role, Emilio Pagán may be the next man up. Pagán, mostly pitching in the seventh inning, has been sharp since the start of July.

Floro spent time as the Marlins closer, but he has struggled against lefthanded hitters this year. The Twins have deployed him against righthanded-heavy parts of the lineup. Injured reliever Brock Stewart has yet to return to the mound after a setback at the end of July.

Could Louie Varland find a role down the stretch?

Varland has been dominant in his past four starts at Class AAA, posting a 0.70 ERA in his last 25⅔ innings with 23 strikeouts and eight walks. His velocity has been up, touching 98 miles per hour with his four-seam fastball, and Statcast credits him with mixing in a new sinker over his past two outings.

The Twins want to maintain starting depth to protect themselves from injuries, but Varland could put himself in position to earn a bullpen role on a potential playoff roster.

Did the Guardians just gain 1.5 games on us and get to a 0 DIFF? Yep they did. Now is the time that the cheap ass Pohlads lose again.

4.5 games back! OBJECTS IN OUR MIRROR ARE CLOSER THAN THEY APPEAR!
It's been 32 years since one of MN's four major sports teams has been to the Championship/Superbowl.
Every single year is failure until we win one. 4 teams, 32 years. That's roughly 128 consecutive failed seasons.

Brock Stewart threw a 15-pitch bullpen session today, his first since he had to take a step back after his last one. Said it felt good, will need to see how the arm feels tomorrow. If all goes well, he’s aiming for a target return to the Twins around Sept. 10, he said.

We should have gone with Keuchel after Ryan.

The Twins have four primary relievers when they have a lead: Duran, Jax, Caleb Thielbar and Emilio Pagán. They acquired Floro at the trade deadline, but he hasn't ascended to a high-leverage role. Brock Stewart remains on the injured list and hopes to return in mid-September.

Do the Twins, a team in the driver's seat for a playoff spot, have enough late-inning bullpen depth?

"We have what we need," Baldelli said. "Like every team, when your guys have thrown a lot, you're going to have to move in different directions and make some different decisions. That's the adjustment of playing every day and working with a bullpen. I feel very comfortable."

Jorge Alcala has already thrown five bullpens, he said, and he'll throw two live BPs this coming week, per Paparesta. Maybe looking at three live BPs total in 10 days or so before a possible rehab assignment.

Chris Paddack threw two innings of live BP in Fort Myers late this past week and will ramp up to three innings this coming week. Paparesta has a call scheduled with Dr. Keith Meister, Paddack's surgeon, to discuss next steps.

With the way Rocco pulls his starters you would think our relievers corps are “light’s out.”

#MNTwins got unlucky today with waiver claims. After not adding to ‘pen at the deadline, they continue forward with a plan that includes depending on injured pitchers to recover and converting SPs with power arms. It could work. Doesn’t make it any less of a risk.

well that's why they should be putting that plan to work real soon to see what works and what doesn't.

It's worth a try...the status quo is NOT getting it done.

any good reason why louie wasn't up with the big club for the weekend series against the strangers? they might have won yesterday if he had cole's innings.

You already know that answer.

Either money (service time) or upper management didn't want to admit they had the wrong guys at the 'major league level'.

Brock Stewart threw 20 pitches of live BP today to Nick Gordon and Michael A. Taylor. Said he was happy with the velo (97-99) and stuff with all of his pitches. He doesn’t know yet what’s the next step, but he says he’s pushing for a rehab assignment.

It's a race against the clock right now to see if Paddock and/or Stewart will be able to contribute down the stretch and into the playoffs. If one of the two ends up helping out that will be a bonus.

Brock Stewart threw live again today and it went well. He says the current plan is for him to start a rehab assignment with St. Paul and throw Friday and Tuesday, and then he hopes to be activated for the home series against the Angels.

I feel like his rehab is taking way longer than expected.
