How long is the swimming season in MN?

Post by Eroder » Fri Jun 14, 2019 6:08 pm

I’ve lived in Arizona now for about 20 years, before that I had a house & boat on the St Croix River. The swimming season here is about 7 months in my pool (unheated). I swear I can remember swimming in the river from late May to late September, which would be about 4 months. Am I fucked up? It seems like it should be about 2 months in Minnesota...

We're tougher up here. Sounds about right as long as the lake temps go up. May could be pushing it in some places depending how warm it was before. Water temp of 70 and above is considered safe in MN.

It's as long as you want it to be. I remember The Kinkster taking his last dips in the 2nd half of October. There are plenty of Polar plunges in the Winter also.

I feel like the water might still be too cold and we haven't really had a lot of hot, steamy days this year. So it will probably be from July to late August I'm thinking.

Depends how far North you are talking.

By the Canadian Border there are 3-4 months of swimming with 2-6 weeks peak......in the top 3 feet of water.....if you know what I mean.

Water was low 70s up north last weekend. Perfect temp.

2 months is about right. Lakes are still a bit chilly. Thursday morning it was 39 degrees (central MN area)

Having a pool in MN is about as smart as having a snowmobile in Miami...
