***Munger's official vacation report thread***

Post by Douglas Bubbletrousers » Sun Mar 17, 2019 8:43 am

This thread is a place holder for tomorrow (Monday) when Munger is going to get on and give us all a detailed rundown of his recent vacation. I thought it would be a nice gesture to roll out the red carpet for Munger and prepare him an official thread.

Munger when do you think you’ll be posting, approximately? I need to plan my day around this.

I hope he brought lots of Imodium so his chocolate rocket doesn't blow up all over the launch pad.

You know the old, played out sitcom joke about watching people's vacation slide shows?

Threads and facebook posts documenting vacations are this generation's version of that.

OK RUBES....IT'S TIME!!! First off, I NEVER said this would be an epic thread. Some of you dopes have been mocking the whole idea of this post and if you want to continue to do so, go for it. I'll give a brief summary of where we went and what we did, then will list a number of observations I experienced and feel free to respond to any specific observation!

Trip destination was to South Carolina where we have some friends living. Loaded up the Munger family and took 2 1/2 days to drive down, stayed about 5 days then drove back in 2 1/2 days. LOT's of historical places down in the SC area and we spent time in Savannah, Beufort, Charleston, and Hilton Head. Could easily have spent twice as much time in each place but we just didn't have it. Charleston was my favorite place and I would highly recommend it to y'all. Went to the market place, walked the streets, ate downtown, and spent a couple hours at Patriots Point, which is home of the USS Yorktown aircraft carrier as well as the USS Laffey Destroyer, the USS Clamagore submarine, and other awesome wartime vessels and displays.

Trip observation time!

1) I drove 95% of the time as I didn't trust Mrs. Munger or any of the young Munger drivers. I noticed one thing in particular, and that is people DO NOT signal their lane changes. It's maddening. When you change lanes you are taught to signal your intentions and I'd say 75-80% didn't do it but just weaved non-chalantly in and out of traffic. Pissed me off.

2) Drivers from Illinois are the worst. There are apparently no speed limits in that state and they recklessly were FLYING down the road regardless of the conditions...didn't matter if it was raining, if there was heavy congestion, etc....speeding fast and dangerously apparently is encouraged.

3) I LOVE the beach...there, I said it. Spent one afternoon on a Hilton Head beach and it was AWESOME. I love watching the waves come in, the sound, the smell, everything about it! Boy, there sure are a lot of body types, aren't there? It was a nice warm day so there was no shortage of suits being worn....and let me say some were quite small and provocative (Douglas would approve). Funny thing is, even the fatties that were there were wearing the skimpy suits and I applaud their confidence in doing so. I could easily see myself retiring near a beach by the ocean and would be there everyday and would enjoy a daily jog/walk combo along the shore!

4) Golfed one day and there were alligators nearby on many of the holes! Some were actually decent sized so let's just say I didn't look too hard for the balls that I hit into the ponds or along the edges....I'm not a good golfer!

5) Some folks at hotels are rude and disgusting when it comes to the free breakfast being served. If you get to the eating area at a busy time it's amazing how both kids and adults act like it's their own kitchen. Also didn't appreciate one morning when an entire family of 6 appeared to be sick as they were coughing like bandits while getting their food....yeah, that was appetizing.

6) Finally, WOW, vacations can be expensive. We went on the cheap and still probably spent close to $2000 between gas, lodging for 4 nights (stayed with friends the other nights), food, entertainment, etc...Makes me wonder how wealthy some here are or friends of ours who seem to go on 2-3 vacations a year.

One final bonus item....was sure nice to come home to MUCH less snow than when we left and temps were decent! Was 10 degrees the day we left and almost 40 when we got back! Boy vacations go by fast....here's some video from the trip!
