Would be great! Shermur employed more of a zone blocking scheme. Reiff flourished and Elf was also more effective. O'Neil seems like a guy that would be a great fit for more zone. I think this would be a good move considering the pieces we have in the cupboard!

what can we be offering him that Jaguars aren't offering more? OC is a great position - albeit there are QB issues. OC consultant here?

I know Kubiak has had health issues in the past. Didn’t he have to get rushed to the hospital during a game one season?

Maybe he wants a more behind the scenes role than OC?

I think we must be offering Offensive Consultant/ Assistant Head Coach. So he can oversee Stefanski.

I'm not saying that I agree with it. I'm saying that it is the only thing that makes sense if they are interviewing Kubiak at all.

Chilly was the offensive consultant under Reid while Nagy was offensive coordinator. Now, Reid ran the offense so it was certainly different.

No, I'm not criticizing you at all, and I don't know how the Reid/Chilly/Nagy power structure came about. But this reeks of Zim getting one of his old school buddies to keep tabs on Stefanski. I guess I would feel a bit undermined if I were just hired, and then not trusted to do it my way.

I understood that you were only commenting on the situation. While I agree with you that it seems like a recipe for disaster, it could also work out (although the odds might be small). Simply, if Kubiak really doesn't want to be the OC but wants to be a help. Then he can become Stefanski's right hand man. He can be the head coach that normal OC's get. I think Zimmer is not good with handling the offensive side of the ball.

But that is if it works perfectly. There are many possibilities where it doesn't work out as well. It's also possible that the vikings don't care if it works out with Stefanski. Simply, if he succeeds, great. If he doesn't, Kubiak is built in already.

I think Zimmer and Speilman only consider this if they felt the heat of being fired. Basically, they don't want to put all their eggs in Stefanski's basket and that was what they were doing. This is survival here.

I was thinking the same thing...wondering what Stefanski's thoughts were on this. My guess is he's not too thrilled. Here's to hoping it works, though!

If Stefanski has any aspirations to be a HC, and why wouldn't he, Kubiak is a fantastic guy to have vouching on your behalf.

I bet he will get assistant head coach title. Zimmer always brings in an extra OC in case he has to fire one.

This looks like a nice insurance plan for Zimmer.
If Kevin Stefanski's offense struggles, he can fire him and have Gary Kubiak take over.

16-0.

Book it, boys. Book it.

Kidding aside (15-1 is more realistic)....This is pretty great. Zimmer is going to have a former offensive minded HC who has seen EVERYTHING but won't be pre-occupied with calling plays standing right next to him during the games. He can run the offensive side of the ball and teach Stefanki (as a former OC) while Zimmer keeps most his focus on the defense. Pretty much what we need since Zimmer seems to want to spend most his time on defense.

This is like having your (Zimmer) buddies ex-wife (Kubiak) hang around your girlfriend (Stefanski) to teach her the ways of being a good wife (OC).

This is a good hire.

What a stupid signing. When your restaurant is fucked up, you don’t hire more cooks, you change the menu.

And for the bozos who think this is a great insurance policy, how did that Frazier for Childress deal work out.

When you blow something up, you get rid of everyone!
1.10.22: Never Forget! Zimmer and Spielman are done destroying the Vikings Organization!

Still can’t start a thread on this forum! Bozo’s hate the truth!

I don't know if anyone here is saying this is a great insurance policy. Its just nice for Zimmer.

I like the move. Bringing in Kubiak guarantees that our running game will become one of the best in the league and he has a pedigree in having a great OL so I'm behind this move 100%.

I had pretty much lost faith in Zimmer but this move went a long way towards restoring it.

Well, now with 2 HC's, 2 OC's, and 2 DC's, you'd hope someone could figure something out.

I don't even know what to say about this management structure.

Imagine you just got promoted at work, then your new boss assigns you a new boss to be a layer between you and your new boss.

But if Stefanski is happy with this, I find that even more puzzling. Shows total non-leadership unless if he feels he needs the additional support. But in that case, how did you just get the job?

It all seems strange, but what do I know.

To me it almost appears more of a backup plan for Spielman since he spent his last year as a Senior Personnel Advisor. Issue with that is I've been a Vikings fan too long to understand that good news such as that can't be within 12 months of happening. We have another 5-10 years of Spielman purgatory to go.

I'd guess they signed Stefanski before they knew Kubiak and Co. was available. Or Kubiak wanted the Kush job, where he doesn't have much responsibility as far as media obligations, and pressure.

Calm down.

None of us know the inner workings of how the dynamic between Kubiak and Stefanski. By all accounts, Stefanski and the Kubiaks are tight, and if that’s true, this feels like it’s not as dramatic as you’re suggesting.

Obviously, you might end up being right, but I just don’t think it’s destined to fail like you’re saying.

If you’re Stefanski and you welcome the Kubiak hire, it’s stupid to suggest that means he has a lack of leadership.

If anything, that shows great leadership to accept input from others. Wolves fans are currently celebrating Ryan Saunders for recently taking the advice of his assistant coaches when Thibs never would.
