If I heard it right, last year at this time we actually had less snowfall than this year, but of course we got hammered pretty good in February and March....

I'd rather just hit hard now when I actually don't mind the snow.

Come late-Feb to March.....I'm in spring mode and despise that white crap more than a BLM supporter.

Oh yes. I remember that

The storm where we got about 12" overnight and then spring literally showed up the next day but because of the snow fall (which resulted in plow trucks sanding/salting), the weather was motorcycle worthy but the roads were still an unsafe melting mess of water/snow/sand so that pushed the riding season back 3 weeks or so.

Yep. I’m usually pretty happy when I make it thru January and February without getting the winter blues. But when we get the snow late in the season, it drives me nuts. I think it was 2013, or so, we got 14” on May 2. Might’ve been that same year that we were golfing in early March.

When I bitch about the weather, and people ask why we’d want to live up here, I usually can’t come up with anyplace I’d rather live. Not only are we tough, but apparently a bit odd!

Last year we had 9.6" of snow at this time. This year we have 11.2"

We ended up with 78.6" of snow last year, including 20" in April.

Without that 20" in April, we still ended up with an above average winter. Average is right around 52", depending on if you use the 10 year or 100 year average.

For me, once we hit February and it's light out until 6 pm, it's all down hill. There are those days when even though it's 35°F, the sun feels warm, you can smell the earth thawing out.

These days where it's just cold and stale suck.

I was putting gas in the truck around 6am this morning, and it was beautiful standing outside. Also walked from where we parked at MSU, over to eat breakfast, and wouldn’t have needed my coat for the 3-4 block walk. Loving this weather right now. Not looking great for the weekend though. Looks like it’s supposed to be cold.

yep. i had the dog out around 7 and it's nice on and quiet on sunday mornings so we can circle around the neighborhood off-leash and not worry about cars, other people or other dogs. a light jacket did the trick. :coolio:

I lived in Texas for 3 years.

It's a warm spring, then summer, then a month of cold spring, then back to warm spring, then summer again.

I missed having seasons so much. As crappy as late-winter to early-spring can be here, nothing beats Minnesota from late-May to Thanksgiving.

I think we get early and consistent start to the golf season. Last couple of years have been stutter starts with snow late in season.
Twin Cities is not going to see much more snow, and just a short cold snap over the next 4 weeks. Just after super bowl temps will be above normal and pins will be in by mid march in the cities.
North of the cities will be normal start due to the snow they have. Mid April if they are lucky. May for North shore and North of that.

some freezing rain down here has left a thin but slippery layer of ice on the sidwalks. two slips that put me on my heels forced me to the street for the afternoon dog walk. problem now is it's going to be under freezing for awhile and that layer could stick around until the next warmup. that situation-weather isn't a meh to me.

a chill down tonight-but sunshine with those lower teens temps tomorrow. the ponds and lakes will solidify that freeze tonight for sure. i'll put it in the above meh weather category for mid-january.

The lack of snow is bad news for many winter-loving Minnesotans, but this unseasonably dry weather has one positive side effect: the best ice skating season in recent memory.

The combination of cold weather, no snow and rain has resulted in epic ice skating opportunities on ponds and lakes across the Twin Cities.

“There have been hundreds of people skating on Lake Minnetonka,” said Tim Jenzer, ice director for the North American Pond Hockey Championship. “It’s like a winter scene from Holland with people skating everywhere.”

After having to cancel the tournament in 2016 and 2017, Janzen said the ice is “better than it’s ever been” for the Jan. 17-20 tournament.

“I don’t think anyone has seen anything like this in 30 years,” he said.

Former Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak took advantage of the snowless ice last weekend by venturing on an ice skating expedition through the frozen city of lakes.

Rybak Tweeted: “Instead of moaning about not having snow, we took winter into our own hands and did something I’ve never been able to do...skated from Brownie Lake to Cedar to Isles to the edge of Bde Mka Ska. Magic.”

i had to sweep off the driveway and sidewalk today. takes pretty much the same time as a real snowfall-for all that work i wish we would have gotten some snow to cover up the ice in the back yard. very much a meh weather morning with that dusting.
