Kaare Vedvik

Go get him!

A Norwegian kicker?!?!

He’s exactly what’s needed to lift the curse that’s been placed upon this team.

Get it done, Rick!

It would be an interesting move. Have him handle both duties and save a roster spot?
GM Spielman:
  • Record 62-48-2 (.559 winning %)
  • Playoffs 1-3
  • 7 years - reached playoffs 3 times.
  • Winner of the North 2 of last 4 years
Zimmer is 48-33-1

Wonder if that's why Thielen was holding kicks in practice earlier in camp.

Your punter can't hold if he's the one kicking the ball.

Fairly steep price, but several teams were interested. He has a huge leg and is only 25. Hopefully this solves the kicking position for a long time.

This pick is going to cost us 4 trade backs and 8 7th round picks next draft!

One of those teams, allegedly, was Da Bears. So it’s good to outbid them and get the guy we both wanted.

Great, great trade to get this guy. As a kicking nerd, I’m super excited about getting him. Bailey can pack his bags as far as I’m concerned.

A lot will still depend on his synergy with his snapper and holder, but in terms of raw ability and track record, I love this guy.

Fun fact: He had a 92-yard punt in 2017 for Marshall.

More importantly, he comes from Baltimore. Randy Brown is on staff there, and he’s phenomenal. He’s the Belichik of kicking coaches for those who don’t know.

Under Brown in recent years, the Ravens gave identified/drafted/signed Justin Tucker, Will Lutz and now Vedvik.

Super strong leg and can punt as well. I do not believe he will he asked to do both full time with the Vikings.

Another fun fact: He was beat up and robbed in Baltimore by thugs who already had money on them. They kept that shit 100.

This is the double whammy of it. The Bears wanted him badly from what I hear.

Considering how rarely fifth rounders really hit and how kickers can really alter a game, it’s not such a big cost. If he bombs, then it’s a waste. If he succeeds, that’s cheap.

The league is still devaluing the kicker even as evidence of its importance has increased.

New #Vikings Kaare Vedvik signed with Baltimore last year as undrafted free agent and spent the season on the non-football injury list after he was assaulted. He suffered a contusion on the back of his head as well as significant facial injuries, including to his teeth and mouth

Kaare Vedvik played in college at Marshall. As a senior in 2017, he made 10 of 16 field goals and 41 of 42 extra points in his only season as the kicker. He was a punter his final two seasons, averaging 41.8 yards, including 44.0 as a senior.

Mike Zimmer said he has no comment on this report. Says, "I really like Dan Bailey.''

The last time we had a solid kicking game for more than one year at a time was the Ryan Longwell era.

That does make sense but Zimmer probably has already called dibs on the extra roster spot for a CB.

I'm guessing he will be the punter, and will also take over for Bailey if he struggles.

Not complaining with this move.

Kickoffs and punter for sure. Hope he steals the job from Bailey. Wile aint bad. Bailey tho near or at his end.

I could see them keeping bailey and use him under 45yrds and vedvik for anything longer. Fun mix...

Also like that we sniped da bears.

Bailey may still be the kicker this year but if he struggles, we have a guy on roster to replace him. Bailey was only going to be here this year anyways.

Save you some cash next year also.

It would be unwise for the Vikings to have Vedvik be BOTH the kicker and punter if you’re not also going to roster a full-time holder.

Having a holder be a player who also plays another position on offense or defense is not wise.

I'm not comfortable putting the entire kicking game in this kids hands (feet) I love the potential, but if you look at the tape, hes got inconsistent mechanics. Especially on the field goal unit. If we have someone who's gonna "Jean claude van damn in kickboxer" him.. fine.

But I'm worried.

I hope I'm wrong. This kid seems too good to be true. If he was all that.. why trade him?

Agreed.

I still think Bailey is the kicker this year anyways. He will get his chance. He fucks up too kuch and he will be gone.

This is more of a move for next year and beyond imo.

Bailey has been shit at camp though.
