Are the quarterbacks that bad for next year? Is this year's crop being overhyped?

I think we have a trade worked out with the Pats for the #3 pick. They will get both our firsts, next year's first, and two 3rd rounders from next year.

We will take Maye.

If that happens I will go out and buy some lottery tickets. Except I think the majority here are hoping for this to happen.

The Pats don't have the weapons that the Vikings do. They need a lot and are building, so taking a ton of extra firsts lets them reload. They could take a Nix, Penix Jr, etc. McCarthy would probably be there at #11 for them anyway. It is a huge win for them to not take Maye, which many reports have said they are not totally sold on.

On the Pats website there are a few scenarios where they trade with us:
https://www.patriots.com/news/2024-patr ... ft-tracker
Quinn Ewers is probably QB2 next year. I scouted him a lot this past year because I thought he’d declare for this draft. I’d put him at QB6 or 7 if he was in this draft.

The top guy, Georgia's Carson Beck, would probably be QB 5 this year.

I don’t much like Shadeur Sanders at all. Zero interest right now.

There are other names to watch like Miami’s Cam Ward and Penn St.’s Drew Allar, but none of them seem like first round picks right now to me.

That can change, of course. Nobody had Jayden Daniels as a top prospect at this time last year, so the science is far from exact. But that’s how it looks now, in my opinion.
I remember Caleb Williams was ranked really high, but yeah, nobody would have thought Daniels would be the #2 QB taken. Maye looked good, but he regressed and is living off of the previous year's stats.

I don't think we will be picking super high next year, but if Darnold pulls a Dobbs and starts to look terrible and a rookie is out there too soon we might lost a lot of games.

I appreciate the insight as I don't follow college football enough. I love this year because I have been crying for us to take a quarterback in round 1 forever. Rick did suck at that though.

NE trying to get the farm for #3 or set to stay at #3 and pick a QB?
Tom Curran of NBC Sports Boston reported on the April 5 edition of the “Tom Curran Patriots Talk Podcast” that three first-round picks from the Vikings — Nos. 11 and 23 this year, as well as a 2025 first — will be well short of what the New England Patriots will require to move off the No. 3 overall selection later this month.

“From what I’m hearing, it’s going to take a lot more than that for the Patriots to be moved off their spot, because they as a team collectively understand the opportunity that these three quarterbacks represent at the top of the draft,” Curran said.
https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/pa ... c7419&ei=7
Brutal that they just took Mac Jones in 2021 and here they are taking another quarterback near the top of the draft in 2024. We have never taken a quarterback higher than #11 in our history. The one year we want to trade up and take a shot these top teams who have messed up their picks won't move down without a Hershel Walker bounty.

I guess we will let the Chargers take our two first rounders for JJ.... Maybe?

Drake Maye seems like a pretty big project for where the Pats are at, but they are not going to pass up on taking him it sounds like.

I'd prefer JJ McCarthy at #11 than 3 firsts for Maye. 3 firsts for Maye already seems like a king's ransom, but more than that is too risky.

I'm kind of tired of this draft class being a bit overhyped though. Two first rounders for McCarthy feels like a lot, but if we don't do it some other team will.

For the love of God, please, New England, take MHJr. That would set up the perfect scenario.

1 Chicago - Caleb Williams
2 Washington - Jayden Daniels
3 New England - Marvin Harrison Je.

That leaves Arizona and LAC up next. Neither is in the QB market and the once-in-a-generation WR is also gone and now there are two of the top-4 QBs left on the board.

Now if you want Maye, Arizona has less leverage because you could always “settle” for McCarthy and trading up to 4 is cheaper than trading to 5. If Arizona asks too much, pass. Unless someone else pays the too much to trade with them, Arizona takes Odunze or Nabers and both QBs fall to 5… even cheaper to move up. 11 and 23 ought to get you 5 with nothing else. Maybe even a day 3 kickback coming our way.

I doubt New England takes Harrison Jr., so this is fantasy, but it would be perfect.

I've seen random rumblings about tampering, but pick swap seems odd. Is there an precedent? They should just have to give us #8 in the draft for stealing our #8!

Imagine if we owned picks 8, 11, and 23. One would think a top 3 team would take that haul.

That's a haul worthy of #2 - it's much more than what SF gave up for Lance.

Wasn't our GM a part of that trade?

Our staff should just wait 3 years and get Maye for a 4th rounder.

I don't like trading both firsts and next year's unless we are getting to #2, and I guess #3, but #5 for that would be nuts. Maybe the Chargers throw us a bone to take McCarthy as a gift to him from his coach? If I was SD I'd do the trade all day long.

#11 & #23 any other season gets us to the top 3 of picks, but of course because we are desperate we will have to overpay.

There’s going to be some good QBs drafted. Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, Jayden Daniels, Michael Penix, JJ McCarthy, Bo Nix….

Who will be a hall of famer?

I’d feel better about trading 3 first round draft picks
for a hall of famer.

Well so would I, it’s the chance you take. How many of them end up being HOFers though?

Does Trev Lawrence look like a HOFer? Not even close right now.

Andrew Luck? Nope.

RG3?

Wentz? Goff? Cam?

Very few turn out to be that HOFer.

Vikings will end up with JJ and I am going to be sick to my stomach. I have no faith in this organization! I want Daniels then maybe.

If the Commanders pick Maye and the Patriots pick Daniels what do the Vikings do, please don't say they still make a trade for McCarthy and give the Cardinals those two-round picks for him.

Worse, the Vikings make the trade with AZ for #4, giving up three 1st round picks and drafting McCarthy.

If the top 3 go 123 with no trade, that’s the worst case scenario for us. I think Arizona goes JJ and then we trade 11 and 23 to LAC for 5 and get a 3 as kickback. We take JJ.
