NSFW: Brock Stewart threw 12 pitches for Triple-A St. Paul. There were five swings and misses and two strikeouts in a perfect inning. His four-seamer averaged 96.9 mph. His sinker did, too.

What if both he and Varland end up being key components of a playoff run??!!

That's good news....with Royce and Carlos and Buck all out we're gonna need to win 1-0 and 2-1 games come playoff time...

i'm thinking rocco better be thinking long and hard as to who he wants to turn the ball over to in a ninth inning high leverage situation--but i have a feeling that decision's already been made. and this is going to be the guy.

Sounds like Chris Paddack could be activated for tomorrow’s series finale.

he's got me there. what are PFPs? i hope maeda's going to be in the bullpen if he's not getting the third start.

First time I can remember in a long time that the Twins are doing PFPs during their allotted BP time today. Looks like almost all of the pitchers are participating, and so is Dai Sekizaki, Kenta's interpreter. Another bullpen secret weapon, perhaps?

edit: google tells me it's pitchers fielding practice. got it. i don't know how the interpreter participating in that gets turned into a secret weapon. three shutout innings in relief from maeda definitely would though.

maeda is indeed in the bullpen for the rest of the year. don't know who's going to get that saturday start in colorado--but joe ryan and bailey ober will each get a start there. i figure ober's will be on sunday.
