Meh.

I just don’t see how the Gophers football or basketball programs will ever be of much relevance again. I hope i’m wrong but the Gophers hoops haven’t made serious noise since the late 90’s and the football team has sucked forever except a few years back when they merely had a good season that some acted as if it was incredible.

Now with all this playing players shit, portals etc etc it just stacks the deck even further. Oh and let’s add in the even bigger problem that this team can’t compete with the likes of Wisconsin and Iowa for Fs sake but now we are adding teams like Oregon, USC, UCLA etc to the Big Ten and I fail to see how these programs are ever not going to be at the bottom of the standings.

One of the only ways to semi combat this is getting the right ADs and HCs in. This is how teams like the Badgers have become solid programs over the last couple decades etc.. We don’t have that and the only time I think I’ve seen anything like that was with Haskins.

Payne and JOJ both were pissed at different points they weren't starting.. lost both anyways. Carrington I am shocked he is transferring because of NIL. Oh well, if they don't want to be here then send them on their way. The one issue with Ben I would say now is if he doesn't have loyalty with the local kids, I'm not sure his hiring makes sense.

That was supposed to be the big caveat with Ben....getting the local kids to stay in Minny. Not only is he losing them, remember that just recently the Star Trib all-metro teams did not include anyone who had committed to the Gophers. That is stunning to me.

Will be interesting to see if Asuma now changes his mind with all the mass exodus or if he looks at it as an opportunity to be a starter on day 1.....and then of course he'd bolt after 1 year.

It's "clownish" because a lot of the failure of the basketball program rests on his shoulders. From the bargain bin head coach he hired to the minimal progress he has made in the NIL world.
