Would you rather have him lie to you the way Jim did for the last 20 years?

I guess I respect the candor, but the timing is terrible. You don't say that to your fans on the eve of Spring Training.
If he really wanted to be candid, he'd tell the whole truth. ''We don't want to lose money, so we're going to slash payroll and HOPE we can emulate the most successful small market team in maybe the history of baseball. Most likely we'll fail, so get used to watching (if you can find our games) a mediocre product for the foreseeable future.''
I get it. But for these folks to try and play the Moneyball card at this point? Nah. The A's and Rays have been collectively shit on for years, caught in the middle of an owner vs. municipality pissing match. You got a new stadium. You are not the same

Maybe someone pressed him about it, and he just decided to answer honestly. I didn't see the full conversation. If that's the case, at least the reporter asked.

Rotation per Fangraphs. Feek/others is this correct?

Lopez
Ryan
Ober
Paddack
Varland

Bullpen arms to start the season on IL:
Duran
Thielbar
Topa
Winder
Weiss

The bullpen looks promising to help this weak staff if they get healthy.

Yes. And the only realistic options on the 40 man right now for rotation depth are Woods Richardson and Brent Headrick. If two starters go down, the team is cooked.

Apparently signing Montgomery makes too much sense. The negligence on this is mind boggling.

Or even just a guy like Clevinger at this point.
I assume there's a move for a Kuechel-type on a minor league deal coming after the seasin starts.

Bauer. The dude is exonerated. Sign him for cheap at this point. He can't be worse than Ober for Odin's Sake.

We need a Sidney Poison type of guy. Too bad out owners don't have money to spend.

Pablo:
22 IP
23 K
4 BB
3.97 ERA

Ryan:
17.1 IP
24 K
2 BB
2.60 ERA

It's embarrassing this ownership group refused to get these guys help.

ober has been fine outside of the royals game. a team that he struggled against last year too. louie actually looked pretty good to me in his start against the O's. made a couple of bad pitches on two strike counts and julien's error cost him a couple of runs as well. but he pitched ahead in the count for the most part all night. much different than his previous start. paddack was bad. that's a very good hitting team though. a lot of pitchers are going to have their problems facing that lineup. if they can stay healthy they should be okay.

bringing in okert in the seventh instead of leaving pablo in was terrible managing. rocco got exactly what he deserved for that move. then jax finished it off in that game. thielbar ruined ober's start too.

they say a good manager can get you two extra wins during the year. maybe three--and vice versa. with the way rocco handles this pitching staff i have a hard time believing that.
