Post your "oh shit" draft (ie trade up fails)

Post by hategreenticemase »

Premise of this thread:

What is your "punt" if you assume no reasonable trades to trade up to AND all 4 are gone by 11. So do a mock with no trade up and pretend none of the 4 are there at 11 and show what your plan B would be.

I traded down from 11 and stayed at 23 cuz Verse was there. I don't study guys like some of you guru's do, so I just go highest rated guy at position of need if close to the top top of list avail. Sweat was ranked like 20 spots higher than anyone and a no brainer, and LSU DT was also so took a second DT.

23. Jared Verse
EDGE Florida State

33. Michael Penix Jr.
QB Washington

39. Graham Barton
OG Duke

65. T'Vondre Sweat
DT Texas

101. Braelon Allen
RB Wisconsin

108. Kris Abrams-Draine
CB Missouri

129. Khyree Jackson
CB Oregon

177. Jordan Jefferson
DT LSU

https://www.the33rdteam.com/michael-pra ... r%20rolls.

He’s at the top of the 3rd tier of QB prospects. Some scouts have him ranked higher than Penix and McCarthy. The level of competition is obviously not to the same standard as the other guys, but he is definitely intriguing. Polished footwork in the pocket. Reads defenses well. The knock on him is his velocity on his passes. Needs to improve his deep ball.

Here’s a good breakdown of him with some highlights.

I think he could be a great developmental prospect. Much more intriguing than Jaren Hall.

Yeah, ok. Jesus Christ.

But hey, it's ok for DH to spam the place with garbage and post 16 times in every fucking thread something about JJ mcCarthy has a noodle arm. But let's worry about a mock draft thread with a particular angle on it.

This place is a fucking treat.

I have DH on ignore so don't pay attention to that spam. But why so defensive? I was just pointing out that there's already a thread. This can be combined with that one.

If they sit put and nothing is there…

I like Turner or Verse at #11. Go back and fourth with these two and still evaluating but I think I lean Turner.

Pick #23 I would go with Penix.

I wouldn’t be mad at this draft.

I much prefer this route than trading up if it’s not for one of the top 3.

Not trading up unless the top three are available! Not trading for pick-four

This. Trading for pick 4 or 5 is gross. The only way I do that trade is on draft night if someone is really stupid enough to draft JJ before one of the big 3 but that isn’t going to happen no matter how much smoke they are trying to blow up people’s asses.

I'm not a big fan of trading up big for JJ either, but wtf are we gonna do? If those 3 are gone, we are fucked.
But I don't see a way around moving up for him.

Draft one of the tier 2 guys left. Most of these guys are going to be early rd #2 picks imo. Just grab the one you like best at #23. You have Darnold who is only 26 years old and another young guy on cheap deals, see what they can do.

Panicking and trading up for a tier 2 guy is going to be a disaster, I’m predicting it now. I don’t even want to spend the #11 pick on one of them.

I believe the Vikings are going to land Maye. They hired his coach and just made a trade. Something is going to give. We probably end up giving next years 1st also to get him but so be it.

Pretty much love this draft.
It's been 32 years since one of MN's four major sports teams has been to the Championship/Superbowl.
Every single year is failure until we win one. 4 teams, 32 years. That's roughly 128 consecutive failed seasons.

This one turned out good, JJ obviously not there after failed trade up. Traded down twice because was both Verse and Latu avail first trade and was guaranteed one of them.

QB Washington

51. Zach Frazier
OC West Virginia

55. Leonard Taylor III
DT Miami (FL)

62. Cooper Beebe
OG Kansas State

108. Josh Newton
CB TCU

119. Bucky Irving
RB Oregon
