Gophers land prized forward Logan Cooley
Projected as one of the top two North American skaters ahead of the 2022 NHL Draft, the Pittsburgh native announced his commitment to the University of Minnesota on Thursday.
“This is the Gophers’ biggest commitment since Phil Kessel. I don’t think he’s going to go any lower than third in the draft,” said Chris Peters, a NHL Draft and prospects analyst for HockeySense . “He’s an elite skater and very clean. There’s an explosiveness to him but it’s easy explosiveness, where it doesn’t really look like he’s chugging. He’s just processing and moving at a pace that is above most of his peers.”
Cooley, who came to the National Team Development Program from the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite program, was originally committed to Notre Dame, but publicly announced his change in plans via Instagram on Thursday. He is a left shot center listed at 5-11 and 174 pounds.
"This is an elite recruit for the Gophers," said Peters, who predicted Cooley could be the first overall pick in the draft. "There's not a deep enough blue to express what a blue chip recruit this is."

Re: Gophers land prized forward Logan Cooley
The Gopher incoming class is one of the best classes ever.
Not just Logan Cooley, but Jimmy Snuggerud (Dave's son), Ryan Chesley, Luke Mittelstadt, Connor Kurth and Cruz Lucious.
Connor Kurth might be the dark horse in that class. As an 18 year old in the USHL he has27 goals and 42 assists in 50 games, which projects to a stat line of 33-52-85. Those stats are similar to Rem Pitlick's in his USHL year, although they are much different players.

Gophers nab another very good prospect: https://www.neutralzone.net/mens/player ... ple-50975/

’06 (D) John Whipple (★★★★½) – Shattuck St. Mary’s 15U
Whipple was our No. 1 rated defenseman at the U.S. NTDP evaluation camp and he’s slated to play for the U.S. NTDP U17 team this upcoming season. In 54 games last year for Shattuck he finished with 55 points (18g, 37a) and 91 PIMs. Whipple is a Minn. native who has been with Shattuck for the last two seasons. At the NTDP camp, our scouts said that Whipple “was not only the best defenseman at the camp, he was the best overall player.”
NZ Scouts: “He’s an excellent skater, strong on his edges, balanced, agile, quick in all directions and has the speed and pivot to stay tight on any forward here, including the U17’s. He is aggressive in his gaps, he has a strong, active stick to knock pucks away and lift sticks around the net front to take away second chance opportunities. He broke up countless passes into the slot which was a result of his body positioning, his aggressive nature to jump plays before they start and his quickness to see it and immediately make a play to pick off the pass. Whipple is smooth in his puck play, he can hammer a guy into the boards, steal the puck and then immediately slow it down, create space with his skating ability and move pucks up ice.”

fwiw of course and this is copied form elsewhere so I'm not sure the Twitter handle behind it:
Some guy on twitter says top prospect Cole Eiserman follows BC, BU, and Minnesota. This source is by no means 100% on his claims but he did tweet out that Whipple followed Ben Gordon hours before his commitment. So there’s at least a shred of credibility.

Re: Gophers land prized forward Logan Cooley
A guy that tracks recruiting noted that Whipple followed Ben Gordon (assistant HC) hours before committing to the Gophers, has subsequently noted that another prized recruit recently added Minnesota as a follow as well. Honestly it's a bit of a stretch to assume too much butt...Hornets wrote: ↑Thu Aug 04, 2022 6:11 pmI don't read jibberish very well...can you re-phrase this?Slap Shot wrote: ↑Thu Aug 04, 2022 2:14 pm fwiw of course and this is copied form elsewhere so I'm not sure the Twitter handle behind it:

Another solid get. Imagine how good the Skippers could be this year if he and Whipple stayed in high school.

Re: Gophers land prized forward Logan Cooley
The Gophers landed another Skipper in 6'2" Javon Moore (37 pts in 27 games last season as only a SO) and this guy currently playing for SSM:
Also recruit Logan Cooley had a goal in USA's first WJC game vs. Germany, while Faber played great D and Knies played like a beast although neither recorded a point.

Re: Gophers land prized forward Logan Cooley
Does anyone know who publishes this list? The Twitter links all of the schools on the list, but not who created the list. I did an internet search for new incoming NCAA hockey player individual rankings and didn't get much. This list has obviously ranked the players, but can't find it on the internet.

Re: Gophers land prized forward Logan Cooley
Good question which is partially why I said take it with a grain of salt. Not only because the source is unknown, but in the end 'best ranked recruiting class' doesn't automatically translate into at least a FF.
