Well, I guess overall one has to call this year successful. The U of M has only won 2 NCAA titles in the last 43 years so can we even call our Gophers a national hockey power? Back in January it almost appeared the boys would not even make the NCAA's, but LaFontaine leaving somehow morphed into a turning point and we saw some of the best hockey we have seen in years.

Next year? Since lot's of players leave early these days we'll just have to wait and see who does and doesn't come back. Would be HUGE if Knies returned for one more year but I have a feeling he'll be gone. Apparently Logan Cooley is the real deal and maybe him coming to town will persuade some on the fence to stay.

btw word is that Knies is at about 50/50 on leaving. Ben Meyers is about 99.99% gone. LaCombe probably 95% gone and Johnson 90% gone. Brinkman is in the portal but he was never going to help much anyway.

Next season could see them flip from defensemen heavy to forward heavy as their incoming class is insanely good. If they can keep 2 of LacCombe, Johnson and Koster then the D will be fine,

Biggest ? is goalie as in is Close the real deal or could he regress like Laffer did at the start of the season.

Between him and Faber coming back I am sure that's on the minds of some of them. I mean even though UMi ultimately lost in the FF they had a hell of a run this past season. With the F talent the Gophers have coming in if they can keep the bulk of their D intact they're going to be a hall of an out next season.


Also: Brinkman to Notre Dame and Cruikshank to SCSU via the portal.

Here's a good article explaining the timelines and everything that happened with McKay. Looks like he did everything that he needed to do, and w/in the timeline that the rules lay out, including proof that he wasn't even aware that it was in his vitamins.
