I tried racing one off the line in Monticello a few years back. My $5000 civic coupe didnt quite hold it's own.Old_Kid wrote: ↑Sun Nov 22, 2020 7:30 pmNo clue young man. I have only seen one up close and personal. Owned by a HD service shop guy.
Did look a little:
The Viper was initially conceived in late 1988 at Chrysler's Advanced Design Studios.
Lamborghini (then owned by Chrysler Corporation) helped with the design of the V10 engine for the Viper.
In 1991 Carroll Shelby piloted a pre-production car as the pace vehicle in the Indianapolis 500 race. In November 1991, the car was released to reviewers with the first retail shipments beginning in January 1992.
In 2014, the Viper was named number 10 on the "Most American Cars" list, meaning 75% or more of its parts are manufactured in the U.S.
The Viper was ultimately discontinued in 2017 after being in production for just over twenty years.
The last Dodge Viper rolled off the line at the Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in August 2017. However, if you looked at FCA’s sales numbers for 2019, you’ll find Dodge sold five Vipers last year. No, Dodge didn’t resurrect the nameplate for a handful of special edition models for exclusive customers. The five are leftovers from the original production run, either left unsold on dealership lots, used for promotions, or simply tucked away.
I miss the Viper though. It was a silly and childish car, but that's probably why I liked it

50k may have been right when it came out in the early/mid 90s.Old_Kid wrote: ↑Sun Nov 22, 2020 8:39 pm The Dodge Viper was discontinued after the 2017 model year. However, most top luxury sports cars (except for the 2018 Audi R8) start lower than the 2017 Dodge Viper’s average price of $142,700. The 2019 Corvette in the ZR1 trim (MSRP: $118,900) is a worthy competitor of the Viper.
2000 Dodge Viper · MSRP
$67,225 - $69,725
It appears the $50k estimate I read about was a liiitttttlllle low.
I think they hold their value fairly well, at least as far as cars go. I saw one a few days back on bringatrailer...the auction still had several days left and the bids were up toward 50k...and this was a 1998 model
