Yes, and because they stretched him only $666,667 would count towards the LUX, vs. the full 2 million, which when you factor in deferred savings and the time value of money might be considerable for a team that spends in excess. I am just saying there are financial benefits to handling his retirement in this way, if that is what he wanted/wants to do.j2j wrote: ↑Wed Jul 10, 2019 12:04 amOnly $2mil of his contract was guaranteed.

Didn't he go mid first with Boston? For a savvy Boston FO, that was a big swing and miss if I'm thinking of the right guy. Cheap depth to see what's up, but he'll get a look somewhere if not here.

I was looking on Spotrac and I was surprised that the WOlves only have the Room Exception, half the MLE available.

I saw that too, but not sure it's accurate. I've heard elsewhere they have the full MLE left.

Because his full salary would count against the cap for this year and the team pays a ton into the LUX. I covered the reasons/economics of it in a previous post.
That is not to say he will retire, it was just rumored he wanted to. After this happened it was also rumored he wanted to play. So we will see.

That don’t sound right. If he did retire I don’t think he would count against the cap.SO_MONEY wrote: ↑Thu Jul 11, 2019 8:43 amBecause his full salary would count against the cap for this year and the team pays a ton into the LUX. I covered the reasons/economics of it in a previous post.

Well he would. A medical retirement would be the only way that would not be the case, but he doesn't qualify. So, respectfully I don't care if you think it sounds right or not.witljon wrote: ↑Thu Jul 11, 2019 9:36 amThat don’t sound right. The real question is if his stretched salary counts beyond this year if he retires. That I don't know. My guess is it would.

It seems more seasons of service means much higher levels of NBA player monthly pension payments.OliverMiller wrote: ↑Fri Jul 12, 2019 9:42 pm Anthony Bennett has made 16.5 million in his NBA career. What a life. Man I would just retire

i gotta hand it to him. i thought he'd be out of ball by now, just living off the initial contracts, buying a chain of donut shops up in canada, and taking it easy. at least he's still suiting up and giving it a shot.

Re: **Official NBA Offseason Transactions/Rumors Thread**
T_J is reporting this transaction:
http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=y3axrsvm
Twolves Incoming - JR Smith (4.3m if waived today, 5.12m if waived by 7/31), Colin Sexton, Cedi Osman
Cavs Incoming - Andrew Wiggins, Lottery protected #1
The Wolves take advantage of Dan Gilbert being a moron and steal a 2nd year pg, a cheap sg, and move Wiggins long term money. It's a win-win move for the Wolves and a lose move for Cleveland, but they're dumb enough to do it.

Cavs plan to waive JR Smith today.
If this happens, this is one of those low-key non-moves that should shake a front office. How they got no assets for that contract is bewildering.
