NBA coming back?

Post by Bob Wiley »

25-day program as part of potential return plan discussed around NBA, sources say

As the NBA waits until May to formally reassess its shutdown due to the coronavirus pandemic, commissioner Adam Silver has encouraged all of the league's employees to present ideas and concepts for a potential return to play.

In that vein, various executives and team medical personnel have been discussing possible protocols to get players ready for games, wherever they could be staged. One of the ideas that has been proposed is a 25-day program for players to go through before they resume game play, sources told ESPN.

Under the plan, players would go through an 11-day stretch of individual workouts in which they could maintain some measure of social distancing while ramping up training and activity. Then, if permitted by medical officials, the idea would be to allow for a two-week training camp with entire teams participating.

In conversations with the league, team planning sessions and conference calls with peers, medical teams and league executives have expressed concern about timelines if the NBA is to continue its season.

With so many players following quarantine directives unable to properly train, there is growing concern about players' susceptibility to injuries when play is permitted again. Some executives have stressed the need for a full month of preparation before a return to competitive action.

What happens if it’s not permitted my medical officials?

The revenue hit for not hosting the play-offs must be HUGE for this to even be a consideration right now.

I wonder how much of this is due to Lebron pushing the issue as his window is running out and the Lakers have a real shot to winning the title if there is a play-offs?

Test them everyday, broadcast the games without fans and ratings will explode.

This.

Any reboot of the league will require the cooperation of some city council or mayor somewhere. And they have more important things to do right now. Are the players and coaches and trainers and support staff and refs going to all be sequestered too? What about TV staff, etc.? What if they don’t want to? What if they want to be with their families during this time?

I’m not concerned about the sports hiatus at all. It will be nice when they come back. Sort of a return to normalcy signal. But I think that should happen when things actually return to normal.

No way. Less than 1% of the United States population Has been tested - in those that get tested 25% test positive. This is a lot worse than what people think - I doubt anything is back to normal till 2022 , Or until there’s a vaccine which can take up to 18 months.

That doesn't make things worse it makes things better. But I don't think sports is realistic from a timing standpoint.

MLB just did like 10k tests. They need to continue to ramp up testing, no question... but I think sports without fans are coming back sooner than people think.

They’ll need to test every player, ump, etc..almost daily. You can have the the virus two weeks before you show any symptoms.

It won’t be very good for public relations when millionaires are getting tested every day and regular people can’t get tested despite what Trump said a month ago.

The players are going to be isolated from the general population. They will stay in hotels and go play basketball. That will be their lives for a month or two.

I should clarify this was for the antibody test. So a bunch of people will find out if they had it already. Testing will happen a lot... didn't I see no umps!?

Just have the Clippers play the Lakers and flip a coin for who the Bucks will play out of the top 4.

It's going to be a LA team against Bucks most likely and whoever it is from the East with get bludgeoned.

4 players in there at a time, no coaches. Sounds like we'll see games in no time!

MLB could go remote Umps that call games from the electronic strike zone and ball tracking tech we see every game now anyway. Balls and Strikes become inarguable. With cameras positioned everywhere I believe almost every aspect could be called remotely.

Now when the Houston Astros get into a bench clearing ball every other game.....it could get really really ugly with nobody to break it up.

How are the teams going to pay the players with no revenue from people in the stands?? At least when they’re shutdown, they don’t have to pay the players either

i think covid and the suspended season are definitely taking a toll on the minds of bb pundits. you can almost hear their brains imploding from the stress.

latest trade "idea" thrown out there - on some site i forget by a guy named nemanja vukanisovic (no relation to belly). and the headline read "the bucks could not refuse this offer!"

the warriors send - their 1st round lottery pick, andrew wiggins, eric paschall and draymond green -

to the bucks -

in return for ersan ilyasova, george hill, dj wilson ... AND ... giannis antetokounmpo!

like i said, the added unfortunate consequences of the pandemic. total loss of logic.

yeah, i saw that - just thought you were reiterating what a godawful stupid offer it was. "okay, sure, let's trade our 25 year old two time MVP once in a lifetime player for a good role player entering the final years of his career, an underachieving chucker, a young PF who played pretty well when the entire rest of the team was injured - but in reality will take on a much reduced role this year, and the first overall pick in perhaps the weakest draft in anyone's memory". sure.
