Will Ryan Saunders Be Head Coach Next Season?

Post by UnFadeable21 »

Rosas has a 3 year deal. No way he’s riding with Ryan For entire venture. Ryan was Glen’s choice. Rosas won’t risk next season and losing his last shot at being in charge of a professional basketball organization.

Ryan will be let go after this season. Book it!

When you’re starting your first head coaching job at any level of basketball, especially the NBA the best league in the world, you didn’t play in it, it comes down to do you know what you’re doing and it’s plainly obvious, Ryan Saunders doesn’t.

In Thib’s 3 seasons here, he never lost 8 games in a row.

Three things.

1. It won’t end at 8.
2. He had time last season, this is not his first year and he has not improved.
3. If we don’t win a game in December he won’t be coaching in January.

Saunders is not getting fired. Glen is still paying Thibs and this roster isn't going anywhere no matter who is the HC right now.

Glen would NEVER fire Saunders during the season. Too much respect there.

In fact, Ryan will be the HC all through next year also. BOOK IT!

Roco needed to start and help the Wolves get going early. Instead we dig ourselves a hole and can’t climb out the entire game.

Ryan saying the Pelicans were desperate to win tonight.

Where’s you and your own teams desperation tonight? Unbelievable. Wolves 4 days off, Pelicans went to OT last night and flew here at 2am and we can’t beat them?

No. He might be gone at the end if it gets really bad. I do think he will be back though. They never thought this team was going anywhere this year imo.

He for sure won't be fired during the year no matter how bad it gets.

If RoCo broke a team rule then whose fault is that? Should coaches look the other way if players fuck up or hold them accountable?

We were down 12-9 when RoCo came into the game, and we scored immediately to make it 12-11. That's not much of a "hole".

Bad year or not, this is the Wolves first 8 game losing streak in 6 years. Ryan has been that bad. Worst than Thibs and Sam.

It's a little funny when people complain about the coach not holding players accountable and then complain when he does. Some people just like to complain.

Funny. This WHOLE board would be "Smitchin" if it was Brother Mitchell.

Even the guys who are telling us to "Keep a level head"

Plus Kat and Towns etc were just basketball noobs.

Sam Mitchell>Thibs>>>>>>>Saunders boy.

I think tonight’s game, you do whatever it takes to stop the skid and fine Roco or something. Game losing streak is now at 8 and everyone, players, fans, management are pissed.

Maybe if players are pissed they should be doing more? Like play better and not be late to team commitments? I'm of the opinion that if the coach looks the other way players are more likely to continue blowing off commitments. What's to prevent him from blowing off the next practice? Or show up late for shootaround? Or miss a team flight?

RoCo played 2 minutes more than his average this season.

Knock Ryan for his rotations, lineups, schemes, whatever... But you can't knock a coach for holding a player who fucked up accountable. Hell, there was a thread, and many other posts questioning whether a coach who is of similar age and friends with the players would have the balls to hold those players accountable.

Are games "team events"? If yes, I feel like the entire team has been tardy for about 3-4 weeks to "team events". Nobody should start the next game. Punish them all.

What I wish the city of Minneapolis would do is put a big billboard near target center. You know the workplace safety boards that read “days without an accident,” we should do that only for Timberwolves wins. Maybe that would shame a couple of them
into actually giving a shit about winning. The word putrid is probably too kind in describing tonight’s game. Ryan clearly doesn’t have the locker room.

Not getting fired. His rotations and love of Graham have baffled me. But he has introduced a modern offense to the Wolves - just needs the players/shooters to fit the system. That is more on Rosas. He is a young coach who should get better. Plus, Glen won't be anxious to replace Ryan while he's paying Thibs.
I thought Ryan's friendship with Wig would hurt his ability to effect any positive change (like benching him for being lazy or poor shot selection) but I'm pleasantly surprised to see progress this season (still hate the contract, etc.)

The shift lasted less than two minutes, but the way it ended was a concerning sign for a Timberwolves team that can’t pull itself out of a nasty tailspin.

Gorgui Dieng was inserted with 7:41 to play in the fourth quarter and the Timberwolves down 11 points to the lowly New Orleans Pelicans. A mere 117 seconds later, the deficit was 15 points and Dieng had to be restrained by Josh Okogie on the sideline as he expressed his frustration with being pulled from the game.

He took a seat on the bench just outside the huddle as coach Ryan Saunders scribbled on his whiteboard in front of the five players who were about to re-enter the game. Dieng slammed a water bottle on the court and it spilled all over the place. In an arena that has been emptier than any other in the league over the course of the season, the expression drew plenty of attention.

I wish we would trade Towns before his demand drops his value. Are Kahn and Rambis available?

Ryan needs to improve a lot, and fast. Starting Graham alone should be enough to get him fired. He has no clue on lineups and rotations, or matching up with other teams.

RoCo getting benched last night sounds reasonable with what we found out later. Starting Graham in his place is not.

He won't get fired during the season unless something major comes up. I don't believe he'll get fired in the offseason either. Taylor isn't going to pay 3 coaches. When does Thibs come off the books? That's the time Ryan will have to start worrying about his job.

Ryan is the lowest paid head coach in the NBA and only has a 3 year deal. Think it’s around 900k a year

Thibs contract runs out next year.

Ryan will be gone. Give me Dave Joeger
