Re: Jordan Bell agrees to deal. 1.6 mil
They used to call him "Little Draymond" in GSW. Obviously not the passing ability of Draymond, but plays with a similar intensity. Had a pretty good rookie season, but kind of disappointing sophomore year.
I remember one quote from him in his rookie season when he was in the middle of a good run, and he said something along the lines of "all I gotta do is get the ball to one of the light skinned guys (Klay or Steph), or the tall skinny one (KD) whenever it ends up in my hands."
Quote told me he knows what his role is.
That story of him charging stuff to others in the organization is hilarious.

it's not pathetic if you are hoping our defense improves. our defense sucked - in three point coverage, in transition, in the PnR and in what seemed to be a never ending parade of dunks and layups. signing a young affordable athletic PF whose calling card is D is a step in the right direction.

He is a $1.6 million player signed because he is on a minimum contract. I am not saying the signing is pathetic, just our reaction to it.somuchyummy wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2019 9:45 pmit's not pathetic if you are hoping our defense improves. our defense sucked - in three point coverage, in transition, in the PnR and in what seemed to be a never ending parade of dunks and layups. signing a young affordable athletic PF whose calling card is D is a step in the right direction.

and a player like bell just might have more value here covering up for karl than he had to do in GSW covering up for ... draymond? KD? iggy? klay? the worse a team's D, the better bell might look. believe me, he'll have more to do here.mlhouse wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2019 9:46 pmHe is a $1.6 million player signed because he is on a minimum contract. He's looking to cash in a lot more next free agency period. He'll get a fairly large role here. I like him backing up Karl is he's a true center. Let's see some Gorgui PF like we used to.

Years and level of “headcase” were not a part of this calculus. He was paid more, but still not much by nba standards. And he was very high risk/low reward.digitalwolf wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2019 11:31 pmBy literally you mean for more years, more money, and for more of a proven headcase? Is Bell our backup PF now? He's was a 5 in GS. I like this signing. Spark plug off the bench.

I think he will play as much as he earns. In GS, if you can't guard the perimeter and space the floor with shooting, you are a 5. He can't do both well enough, so he's a 5. In GS, they brought in 48 year old Bogut to play ahead of him. Here, who knows.

I just read some stuff about him, and he seems to be kind of a knuckle head. He's matured a little, and maybe coming from a stiff ass ran team like GS, he can relax and play his game. Sounded as if Draymond had to keep him in check most of the time.
He runs the floor well, but he's only 6'9, so he would be undersized for a real C. Not sure if his game translates to the 4 spot. Guess we'll see.

This is absolutely the type of a move a team like this should make. Keep looking for more "high risk, low reward" guys while you're in cap hell and maybe one of them works out.

Dude....we gave Darko 20 million over 4 years.....how is 1.6 or 1.8 even close to that sum, not even counting the years?! And I'm sorry, if any Darko formula doesn't involve "headcase" as part of the calculus....the formula is literally a failure.Beef Supreme wrote: ↑Tue Jul 02, 2019 7:19 amYears and level of “headcase” were not a part of this calculus. Darko was a headcase. So what? That has nothing to do with being cheap, high-risk, and low-reward. No matter how badly you want it to.
