Prediction: Draft Night

Post by RubeTube »

It's on the cusp, boy's. Lay down your prediction for the Wolves on draft night. Include trades, player swaps etc...

This is not what you want to happen but what you think will happen.

My prediction....

No trades etc..get done

And with the 11th pick the Wolves select....

Rui Hachimura

Much to my displeasure.

Ill go with Rui if I am allowed. Love him at 11. A player with a solid floor and big upside. There are players I take instead of him, but they are all gone by 11. I would consider trading down to 14 or 15, and might be able to get him there too, but doubt that there is a good enough offer.

Rui gives us options at the 4 to work with. If he develops, we can look at Saric as trade value without having to extend his deal. I think Hachimura is a guy that at a minimum is a solid rotational 4 that can play 15 minutes and contribute and that has value in itself.

My wish at least 2 of 3 are traded: Wiggy, Teague, Dieng

My prediction: Glen sells a second round pick for cash

Trade down with Boston 14, 22 and 51 for 11 and 43

At 14 we take NAW and turns into a premium pg of the future.

At 22 we take PF Nic Claxton and replaces Taj without a beat.

At 51 we take a euro stash perhaps the German kid.

Wiggins doesnt get moved.

I really liked NAW at beginning of the process but I don't think he has that much playmaking ability. He might be able to be the "1" in the Wolves lineup though and he can shoot reasonably well. At 14, probably an appropriate pick.

But I would prefer to take Rui, spend the year developing young PGs for depth, and then hopefully find a solid guard in the 2020 draft.

Why would you phrase it like that? They ran a live mock with, like, three guys. It was in no way indicative of any inside news.

Funny Rosas addressed the promise to Hachimura today in his press conference. He said no.

Some reporters still think that’s real.

I would guess its true too. Whats interesting though, is how Rosas said he did not promise Rui at 3. Of course when directly asked about it, you are going to say no. Butt, he didnt just say no, he said "we don't make promises to players..." which reads more like, "FUCK NO, we didnt promise him!"

I also imagine what the media thinks is a promise, is more like an agreement on a bunch of contingencies...

GM..."We like you a lot. If you are there at 11, we will probably be taking you, as long as player X/Y and Z are not available, and if we don't trade up for someone we like better, or trade down to get another pick. Also, if some team offers us an established young player, we will probably be trading the pick as well."

Player..."Yeah, they told me they'd take me if I'm there at 11"

Media..."A promise has been made to player, that the Wolves will select him"

Not a prediction, but I really hope we are the active wheeler and dealer. I suspect we will try and push to do a fair bit (which is the prediction) but it will be a question of pulling it off.

If you look at our future draft assets, for a 36 win team we really have a bare cupboard. We own one future draft pick, a 2022 2nd round pick (most favorable of Sixers and Nuggets). That pick was acquired in 2015 (we got the pick and Gary Neal for Mo Williams and Troy Daniels.

I think we could have moved Rose, Gibson, and even Tolliver last season and at least got some future assets. But we just stood pat.

Standing pat at the deadline was borderline irresponsible. Totally agree.

I would have loved picks for those guy's last year. This organization was delusional thinking they could make the playoffs though.

I’m not sure if it was Glen Taylor’s decision, or Layden’s ridiculous attempt to make a run, but it was futile and we will lose players for nothing when we could have received 2nds at the very least.
