So, I've heard that a lot of these online gamers that make a living off video games (specifically Fortnite) can write everything they spend off as a tax write off.
A: Is this true?
B: I have a really hard time thinking that our taxes should be going to peoples video game playing.

Tax write offs for in game skins, etc.
It's been 32 years since one of MN's four major sports teams has been to the Championship/Superbowl.
Every single year is failure until we win one. 4 teams, 32 years. That's roughly 128 consecutive failed seasons.

If they are claiming the money they are making via online gaming as income, then yes, it would be an expense, and thus a write off.
Don't think about it as our taxes going to video game playing. Their income is all 1099, if it helps, think of the money as if it were a small business. It's exactly like somebody who drives for Uber writing off mileage/gas expenses or somebody who makes money umpiring little league baseball writing off gear.
