The bright side is this becomes irrelevant if there's no season.

Re: Bateman leaving
With the long term affects teh rona can have on your lungs and such even if you survive it, it's hard to fault him. We also don't know if he has some underlying issue like the sickle cell trait or something like that. This can't have been an easy thing to decide to do. PJ also posted a really nice thank you to him on Twitter. I'm bummed we won't get one more year of him in maroon and gold, but ultimately, he helped put this program back on the map. Good luck, Shoddy.

Re: Bateman leaving
Part of me wonders if he's got some inside knowledge that there's not going to be football. Apparently he's been in California working with a trainer for weeks.

Re: Bateman leaving
Don’t need inside knowledge to know that 100s of people traveling around to stadiums isn’t going to work. It’s not working with much smaller and professional baseball teams, it sure as hell isnt working with 105 19 yr olds plus staff

Damn, this one hurts. I wonder if it's just a matter of time before we see these announcements from several top prospects.

Would the pro athletes do it without getting paid? No chance. I don't know how college sports will go forward right now...

I'm guessing he is the first of many. The odds of a season happening is probably 50/50 anyway.

Re: Bateman leaving
Sucks hard but not unexpected and if the season gets pushed back to spring there's no way a player like him would play anyway.

RT @PeteThamel: Source: Minnesota star WR Rashod Bateman wants to play for Gophers in 2020. He’s back on campus and enrolled as a full-time student. He’s signed with agent and finds himself in the same scenario as other high-profile players around the country.
RT @PeteThamel: Bateman and other stars wanting to return will need clearance from the NCAA for the unique circumstances of this time. Bateman opted out in early August amid the lack of clarity of the season and uncertain health environment.

Re: Bateman leaving
Making no judgements on him or anyone else and hindsight is whatever, why was there such a rush to get an agent in the first place? Were they going to run out if they waited?Sid Hartman wrote: ↑Fri Sep 18, 2020 9:07 am RT @PeteThamel: Source: Minnesota star WR Rashod Bateman wants to play for Gophers in 2020. Its the NCAA. Anything is possible. Of all the organizations in the world who have so much power and so much impact, I defy to find one that has less common fucking sense than they do.
