Hypothetical "What would you buy" thread
$30,000-$40,000 range
Civic Type R
Pros:
310+ Horsepower from a Civic
It's a Honda, so reliable
Benchmark for the Hot Hatchback class
Fastest FWD car around the Nürburgring at one time
Cons:
Styling could be considered a little childish
Expensive compared to others
Hyundai Veloster N
Pros:
nearly as good performance figures as the Civic
$7,000 cheaper than the Civic
Bulletproof Hyundai warranty
Reports are that this is better to drive on a day-to-day basis (i.e. not on a track)
Cons:
It's a Hyundai
Kind of boring styling
Ford Mustang GT
Pros:
Dat V8 Rumble
No replacement for displacement
Probably objectively the best/least controversial looking car of these three/at this price point
Personally, it's dream car status (but this may not resonate with you)
Cons:
The Mustangs that you'd find at this price point will not be likely to have all of the options you'd want
Probably not a 4 season friendly car, or at least not as much as the others.

None of the above. I'm keeping my $30-40K.

Feel free to provide what you would do at this price range instead of those 3 so I can ridicule your taste.

Re: Hypothetical "What would you buy" thread
Probably none of those. A type "R" is a great car if you're a 24 year old Hmong kid. The Hyundai ? that is one ugly pile of shit. what's with the wing on top of the hatch? is that supposed to do something? The mustang 5.0 is boring as fuck....and it's rear wheel drive. not the best choice in Minnesota if it's your daily. That things seeks out the ditch as soon as you put it in drive.
I'll stick with my AWD car that will beat the ever loving shit out of all 3....at it's not even close. 0-60 in 3.9....... 1/4 in the low 12's

Re: Hypothetical "What would you buy" thread
The wing doesn't seem to exist in the production models of the Hyundai. It's more subtle. I think what I put in there was a preproduction version, or possibly a rally/race version of itMizuno Man wrote: ↑Fri Feb 28, 2020 3:23 am Probably none of those. Within the criteria that you outline in the OP... The Mazda MX-5 Miata.

That's a fair and solid addition that I do like as a car. My reasoning for not including it is that it isn't a great daily driver in Minnesota, and the two seat aspect doesn't make it super utilitarian for most people. The Lizard King wrote: ↑Fri Feb 28, 2020 8:06 amWithin the criteria that you outline in the OP... Interesting that you skated around that second question.
But to address your point, it could be argued that the money doesn't leave the American subsidiaries of the greater corporation and that they almost certainly have accounts within American banks as well.

It's built on the GM Alpha platform. It is only shared with the 2016 and newer Camaro.
Neither of you know half as much about cars and/or driving as you think you do.

It's a similar phenomenon as when the users around here talk as if I drive a base Fiesta.EnLiteEndOne wrote: ↑Fri Feb 28, 2020 10:11 am It's built on the GM Alpha platform. It is only shared with the 2016 and newer Camaro.

Cars yes, POS GM cars no. I gave up on GM when my kid bought a Chevy Cobalt and the rod went through to block at 40k.EnLiteEndOne wrote: ↑Fri Feb 28, 2020 10:11 am It's built on the GM Alpha platform. It is only shared with the 2016 and newer Camaro.

Apparently they put the Lane keep assist and collision protection/automatic braking bull shit on this car. That fact alone is enough to ruin this car for me.

I’d just trade up from my 2012 Avalanche to a newer GMC Sierra. I’m boring that way.
