This version is significantly better than the original.

Beef Supreme wrote: Fri Feb 21, 2020 4:40 pm Some bands really do killer covers. Metallica’s done a bunch of great ones. Marilyn Manson has a shit ton of great covers too (check out their “Down in the Park” originally by Gary Newman for evidence). Monster Magnet is another band with some great covers (David Gilmour’s “There’s No Way Out of Here” chief among them).

Whenever I see a show with an opener I don’t really know, I hope they play a cover to draw me in. I know these unknown acts want to promote their own stuff, but for the sake of the show, Rock something out that the crowd will know!
Metallica's "Whiskey in the Jar" is the worst cover of all time. I guess their Misfits covers were okay.
Not even close! Check out their cover of Nick Cave’s “Loverman.” That’s truly terrible!

Great Metallica covers:

“Am I Evil?” - Diamond Head
“The Small Hours” - Holocaust
“Breadfan” - Budgie
“Remember Tomorrow” - Iron Maiden
“Last Caress/Green Hell” - Misfits
“The Wait” - Killing Joke
“Damage Case” - Motörhead
“When a Blind Man Cries” - Deep Purple
“Please Don’t Judas Me” - Nazareth
“Astronomy” - Blue Oyster Cult
“Sabbra Cadabra” - Black Sabbath
Can't think of a shittier cover than Metallica butchering "Whiskey in a Jar-ohhh!"
Like that, y'all, pop some more shit.

Okay, I dig this song. But even though I think Cornell > Rose by a country mile, I just don’t buy that Cornell “thinks about you every day” like I do when Rose sings it.

Conversely, I wouldn’t buy Rose singing that he “fell on black days” either.

But it’s worth a listen.

One of the coolest ever. If you search for "reaction" videos to this it's very cool.

I recognize this performance as excellent, but I hate it anyway. So sterile. No soul at all. Sounds totally fake and over-produced to me. Blech.

LOL.

I had heard of these guys, and liked a handful of songs of theirs. I saw them open up for Blackberry Smoke, last fall, at the Palace Theater in St Paul. I remember chuckling, much like sellingguy, when I saw them, because I totally didn't expect the look they had.

I found a version of Sting's "If I Ever Lose My Faith In You" that these guys are supposedly doing. It's the same deal. I'll have to see if it's on YouTube. I found it thru Livewire's Twitter account.

I've been reminded of this version of Take Me Home, Country Roads by Toots & The Maytals because of the passing of Toots Hibbert. God this is only version of this song that matters.

Cover / Impersonation heavy on the impersonation. Mike Starrs Ozzy is pretty spot on.

If someone wants to see rock covers at their absolute finest, I would highly suggest checking out the Charlie Benante collection right now on youtube. I'm stunned at just how stunning they are. I'm not a huge U2 fan, but there's a cover of "City of Blinding Lights" that's fucking great. Every song I've seen now has been completely spot-on. I knew Benante wrote a lot of the guitar stuff with Anthrax. But this shit clearly ups my respect level. I don't know if I'd put him quite at the Devin Townsend-level of 'genius' but he's probably in the area code.
