april 26, 1980 and the number one song was "call me" by blondie. the number three song was "another brick in the wall". but this week i want to highlight the song that was sandwiched in-between them. "ride like the wind" by christopher cross-because of something alan hunter said that i did not know when introducing the song. and according to wikipedia he was correct.

Cross was on acid when he wrote the lyrics. "We were living in Houston at the time, and on the way down to Austin to record the songs, it was just a beautiful Texas day. I took acid. So I wrote the words on the way down from Houston to Austin."

from the charts. may 7, 1983. prince's "little red corvette" made it-but 1983 will always be remembered as the year of michael jackson. once i heard "billie jean" at 14 and moving back down the charts i had a pretty good idea of what number one was going to be. number 2 was "jeopardy" by the greg kihn band-but i was right about number one. here it is.

some of the results from this week's countdown. may 17, 1986. for the record i remember that spring almost like it was yesterday. this is why i like listening to the 80's countdown show. it's a personal history lesson on what i was up to brought to my mind thru the songs. lots of drinking and playing hacky sack that spring. wore out the front yard by this time of the year back then.

it was a good countdown show music-wise to. the top 15 fueled the memories.

may 29, 1982. and another very good countdown show. i especially like the early 80's ones because of the variety of genres. willie nelson, ronnie milsap, john cougar, loverboy, tommy tutone, 38 special, sheena easton. you get the point. the number one song was "ebony and ivory" by paul mccartney and stevie wonder. kind of a meh song now-but it was the biggest post-beatles song for paul and second only to "hey jude' in his career at number one. seven weeks. a couple of other highlights for me.

82 was vintage imo. i'd love to go back and live the year again. the music was a big part of it too. here's the top 100 chart for the week. the countdown show only goes from 40 to one though.

june 9, 1984. the summer of loopy lauper, the boss and footloose. and probably the greatest 80's summer for me too. i was out of control though and lucky that i didn't crash and burn. had five figures in the bank. a summer job at the local factory making over 250 bucks a week and was going to be spending the school year studying in germany. what was not to like.

i remember an apple river excursion that used to give that place a reputation. seeing springsteen at the old civic center where he was kicking off his born in the usa tour with three dates and he filmed his video of dancing in the dark with courteney cox. a trip up the north shore to thunder bay and then meandering back to my friend's cabin in park rapids. a softball tournament on some hot summer weekend where the beers flowed and we all took shrooms on that saturday night. when it wasn't about the work or the partying-i was listening to plenty of MTV. what's not to like? so those were the memories when i listened to the countdown show this week. here are a couple of highlights.

number 26- i remember singing this song in an inner tube floating down the apple river-so it makes the cut.

number 14- this was the summer she started to make her mark. hit it huge in the fall/winter.

number 6- hummdrum-one of your 1984 favorites? i think so-so it makes this week cut.

"Infatuation".
I love this Rod Stewart song that was on the radio/MTV in 1984. It still stands the test of time, not able to explain why really. We all get infatuated with things from time to time.
The video has a super hot chick in it (probably older now...lol) and the video is kind of funny to imagine some guy being like this.
click on the link (it works !) My laptop does not allow me to get the video posted for some reason.

and holding down the number one spot this week was a group that my girlfriend at the time was ga-ga for. take a guess. here's a clue: they were one of the first freestyle music groups to emerge from New York City in the 1980s.
