We have two heavyweights from this state that have had a huge impact on pop culture in this country. Which one do you think was most influential, Bob Dylan or Prince?

Dylan because of the era he was in. He's in multiple Hall Of Fame's, changed folk music, invented country-rock, was one of the first artists to release songs longer than 3 min, wrote "All Along the Watchtower" for Hendrix, produced decades of music and remained popular, was named one of Time magazines 100 Most Important People of the Century, made poetry cool again, an dnever did what was popular at the time and went his own way.

Prince was talented and awesome, but Dylan was a pop icon from the 50's to present. His list of accomplishments and people he influenced is matched by few.

Personally I like Price's music better than Dylan's but I think Dylan was iconic among generations. Dude was there for the cross-over to electric guitar and still made it.

If I'm ignoring the other guys Dan Wilson has written some songs with a lot of reach.

Closing Time - love it or hate it it is a well crafted song (I don't care for it)
He co-wrote 3 tunes on that Adele album that was huge including "Someone Like You" (not to be confused with the Scorpions song of the same name)

The list of songwriting/producing credits is way larger than I assumed.

Yes!

For me on influence it’s easily Dylan.

Prince was the far better musician and performer, though.

He won't get top billing but Paul Westerberg is up there along with the Wilson Bros.

Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis were aight as well.

Any answer other than Dylan is wrong. No other musician from MN has won a Nobel Prize, so that kind of ends the conversation.

While I don’t like the “you’re just wrong” style of discussion, the Nobel Prize is a strong point.

Not sure how INFLUENTIAL Prince was. Can't think of many artists who have obviously emulated Prince. IMO, for what he did, Prince almost stands alone. On the other hand, there are countless bands who have worked the Replacements vibe.

Probably Prince, but also, maybe Dylan. Probably Dylan though. But it could be Prince.

How about next time the OP doesn't ask such an easy and stupid question?
