Fastway. Eddie leaving Motorhead for his own band. The first 2 albums kicked ass, after that meh.

I love Son Volt, and the first two albums are amazing but I can understand why they didn't go big. I don't think Jay Farrar has ever wanted to be in a commercially successful band and seems to change directions if things look like they are headed that way.

The name I'll add to the list:

Buffalo Tom
Farrar comes off as a really weird guy. I know a couple people who have met him (one in a professional capacity), and he's extremely anti-social.
Also, his musical style has never really changed from the Uncle Tupelo days. Unlike Tweedy, who has done a lot of different styles of music.

220 Volt. Europe light but I think they had a place in Hair Nation.

That seems like a tough one to put in there. I suppose you could say they should've been bigger if Brad Nowell doesn't die.
True. Feels like No Doubt kind of picked up where they left off and made the big bucks on that sound. Sublime made the sound that many bands in their own shitty way ripped off and cashed in on.
Sublime and No Doubt both released their first album in 1992, although No Doubt formed 2 years earlier (1986) than Sublime. Not sure if there's a chicken & egg in their styles or not, but ND was doing ska from the beginning and included the use of horns.

They were pretty big. Unless you think they should have been like the Rolling Stones or something. They've sold 20 Million records.

Good calls. Each of them had their moments. But they never broke through.

Was in New York, went to a jazz club for no reason other than to go to a jazz club, Guy standing next to me..."how the fuck do I know that guy?"

"I'd like to invite the Alex Skolnick trio onstage.". Must have been right when they formed. Wtf, he plays jazz now?

They were both pretty big. I've seen Tesla twice at First Ave. I've been to a lot of shows there, and with the exception of Cheap Trick, the two Tesla shows were without a doubt the most packed I've ever seen that place.

Some guy out in the Stewart area in the early 90’s had the OG ricky’s shitmobile with slave raider spray painted along the side of the car. Always wondered how hard he partied

I'm still inherently less interested in their new output. I agree they are a very good band.

“High Country” has a few good songs, but is overall a tough album to get into.

“Used Future” is worth another listen. Once you accept that it’s not really a metal record, you’ll find there’s some good Texas-fried riffage there. It’s more ZZ Top than Metallica, though.

Didn't Savatage basically morph into the Trans-Siberian Orchestra? They've done pretty well for themselves, literally only having to tour about a month and a half a year...

Yeah...but, TSO has turned in to at least two full bands. They do multiple shows per day, in different cities. Doesn't take away from the fact that they have made some hellacious bank on that gig. It's not like they're kicking out album after album, either.

Hell of a business plan, for sure!

They used to play all the time at Stebs in Cedar Falls. Good band. My friend saw them in 2013 at a reunion show in Cedar Falls and said they still kicked ass.

Great in concert....and Glass Cockpit is still one of my favorite albums ever. they reunite every so often, so hopeful for one more Mpls show.

Are you sure it wasn’t Spinal Tap who recorded Glass Cockpit? That came out after Smell The Glove.
