the 10 greatest classic rock songs of all-time!

Post by weimy froob »

according to the siriusxm rock and roll experts.

10. "sweet emotion"

9. "eruption/you really got me"

8. "hotel california"

7. "won't get fooled again"

6. "sympathy for the devil"

5. "knocking on heaven's door" original version

4. "all along the watchtower" jimi hendrix version

3."layla"

2. "a day in the life"

and number one?
Spoiler:
of course it was. the same as the number one song from the vintage rock and roll 500 songs of all-time KQ shows in the early 80's. the number two song back then was "free bird" though. this program was as close as you're going to get to listening to that show back then. not many songs that were after 1985 from this 1000 song countdown.

One thing I really like about this top 1000 thing, is that I've come across a lot of songs in the last few days that I've forgotten about. For example, I'm No Angel, by Gregg Allman is on right now. Not a bad song, but not something I'd run out and get. This Top 1000 is better than the regular Classic Rewind/Vinyl channel because we're also avoiding the repeat cycle that they have on the regular channels.

yep. i was thinking about when's the last time i heard that song when it was playing too. 1000 songs is a huge playlist and it encompasses more than a couple of their channels as they are pointing out to us in between some of the songs.

"welcome to the jungle" at 840? that's an example of how thick the playlist is for this show.

The song is about a dude trying to fuck, but the woman decides to cut him off at 3rd base unless he commits his entire life to her. The man agrees, but immediately regrets it.

Sounds like every wedding I have ever attended

Can we get firm perameters on what is and isn’t “classic rock?”

Thanks!

this countdown show is taking in plenty of siriusxm channels which they are using for promotions while they count the songs down. everything from ozzy to america. 414 was "horse with no name". i wonder if a song like "american pie" made it. whatever the definition-it's been a good listen to for the subscribers imo.

I always wonder what the cutoffs are?

Are the Beatles classic rock? Even their early stuff?

Elvis?

What about Guns N’ Roses? Classic rock?

My own working definition is that “classic rock” starts when the Beatles matured in the mid/late 60s(“Love Me Do” is not classic rock) and ended around 1979 or so.

But that’s just me.

Or is it a sound and not an era?

Is Greta Van fleet classic rock? Buckcherry?

not much stuff past mid-80's-if any. i don't think any elvis is on there. siriusxm is advertising this as the "most influental" classic rock songs of all-time. guns-n-roses is on the list.

Bruce Sprinsteen made me laugh when when he said something along the lines of "who could have have imagined that just by changing one word of a song to a feminine hygiene product that it would become a classic"

number 130 and counting. that must mean that they're going to repeat it one more time if they're going to go until 3-15. i've got pockets missing and it isn't going to hurt me to hear some of it again so i figure i'll keep the channel right here until this is over.

78. "carry on wayward son"
