Who are your elite modern singers?

Post by Straight Edge Raven »

I'd say within the last 30 years

I think my top Females are Alicia Keys, Kelly Clarkson, Lady Gaga, Hayley Williams.

I have a hard time picking male singers cause I generally listen to Rock/Alternative and sometimes its hard to grasp great vocals but of course I'm going to go with Billie Joe Armstrong because I know his work and how much his voice has improved over the years. Cobain can get in there as well, its too bad he left us so soon. I think Bruno Mars is super talented as well.

Then you got people like Elton John, Prince, Michael Jackson, but I feel they're more famous for their earlier work before the 90's generally.

I know there is a ton more talent out there, so give me your thoughts. Donesn't have to be a mega star, you might know this obscure indie singer who has a fantastic voice.

I'm going to stick with the rock genre, because I generally avoid modern pop music. I will grant you Keys and Lady Gaga, though. Add in Adele.

Now, for rock singers, I'd say the top singers, lately, are the likes of Taylor Momson (Pretty Reckless), Lizzy Hale (Halestorm), Jay Buchanon (Rival Sons), that kid from Greta Van Fleet, to name a few. I know I'm missing some.

Chris Stapleton and Eric Church are the only current country artists that I'll listen to. So good!

Last 30 years?

Layne Staley
Amy Winehouse
Bjork
Axl Rose
Thom Yorke

Billy Joe Armstrong does not belong on this list (and I'm a Green Day fan).

Kizska kid from Greta Van Fleet - I think he tries too hard, but his range and rock raspy-ness makes me damn jealous.
David Dramain from Disturbed - he was unique until their cover of Sound of Silence. Then I realized his brilliance.
Lenny Kravitz
Adele
Bruno

And they all got started more than 30 years ago, so are ineligible for this discussion, per the OP.

But yeah. I love Ronnie and Bruce. I like Rob, but he’s not quite on the other two’s level, imho.
