Luscious Jackson had a couple hits in the mid-90's. I don't know enough about their entire catalog, though. I hear Dinosaur Jr. on SXM quite a bit. Admittedly, the only song I really know of, I heard on the video game Rock Band.

Meat Puppets will always be one of those bands where I go right to a specific time in my life. I was a sophomore in HS, my friends and I had just gotten our licenses. One of my best friends had that disc, and we had Backwater cranked in our vehicles all the time. I'd never thought of them as under/over rated or anything, but not that you mention them SS, I think it's a great add, because clearly they had an impact!

I'd also add these guys...

Soul Coughing: theres not a bad song on any of those three albums.

Deftones: though they get plenty of love they get filed under chick music by the uninitiated and their influence is titan. Not to mention they've stayed true to themselves and their sound while other bands keep trying to "go back to the first album".

Fugazi: those of us who know them know better but they've been forgotten by the masses.. which they probably love.

Fiona Apple: went the opposite way of most artists and used her pop album to fund becoming an excellent jazz singer.

Tal Wilkenfeld: was introduced to her as a 14 year old bassist playing with Jeff beck, and ripping shit apart.

But shes pretty good on her own

I don't see Shirley Manson in those videos. I think it's great stuff - great lyrics, far from mainstream, great beats.

I'm in the same boat as you SS. Furthermore, what's the point of being an ass about someone's musical choices? When I worked in a music store, while I was in college, I learned very quickly to give everything a chance. And, while I still didn't like a lot of what I would hear, or what people picked out, you could make the same claim for their feelings about something I listened to. And, the great thing about this is that if someone doesn't like the same thing as you, they don't have to listen to it. Problem solved!

I've always felt the Cult were always under the radar. Nice to see the Kinks and Velvet Underground mentioned here too.

You would think the Cult was underrated because they are your favorite band. They had 3 songs. Get over it.

I admit I'm biased because they are my favorite, but they're underrated because most people are like you thinking they only have 3 songs. I'm guessing you're thinking 'She sells...", 'Love Removal Machine', and 'Fire Woman' are their 3 songs, but they have so many more good ones like:

Star
Coming Down
Rain
Rise
Sun King
Big Neon Glitter
Heart of Soul

Hell, just get "Love", "Electric', 'Sonic Temple' is okay, their eponymous album and 'Beyond Good and Evil'. As Meatsauce would say, 'They're all bangers".

Let's post what we like. Don't hate on everyone's personal likes. Music is based on what we like. I like alot of different genres as we all do.

I agree. Not hating anything per se at all - and I don't think I was the one stating someone else's music gives me the runs. ;)

I hated these guys, when I was younger. I've found, as I get older, I'm really starting to dig them. I can't honestly call them under/overrated, because I haven't followed them long enough. I can tell you when they come on the SXM or Pandora, I do NOT change the station. Rather, I catch myself singing along.

For unknown reasons I really developed a taste for them in the early 90's. They played Roy Wilkens and their opening band was Hootie and the Blowfish right after Hootie blew up. Over half the crowd left when the Blowfish finished their set. Toad had Darius sing the lead on a few songs, including the encore - terrific.
