RTJ

Post by BBG »

Run the jewels is the modern day equivalent of what rap music was originally about. They are smart, political, and talking about real issues that people face. In a world of shit hop, we have an example of creative and relevant artists. Killer Mike came on the scene with Outkast about 20 years ago, and EL P is from the legendary Company Flow.

Great thread but belongs in music chat.
I don't give a fig for the simplicity on this side of complexity, but I would die for the simplicity on the other side of complexity.

Not really a fan myself, but I respect their craft. Just below the hip-hop surface their are ton of people and artists just like Run The Jewels who are keeping the real fabric of hip-hop alive. People just have to dig a bit deeper. But there are truly riches to behold.

Have these tons of artists been doing it for nearly 30 years?

And what are their names?

Were you a big fan of the Def Jux roster in the early 2000's?

A couple of legends of hip-hop who were crazy ahead of their time. Patterson Projects 1989. Just listen to this and Percee P and Lord Finesse would slaughter 100% of "emcees" making mainstream hip-hop today.

The stuff was maybe a touch too weird for me at the time. Or different from what I was listening to. I should go back and listen to some of that now. I super dug Cool Calm Pete from Babbletron and he was on Def Jux.
